Brett Rypien

Brett Rypien returns to Minnesota after stints with the Cincinnati Bengals and Indianapolis Colts to start the 2025 season. He served as the Vikings emergency third quarterback in every regular season game during the 2024 season. Prior to signing with the Vikings in 2024, Rypien spent time with the Denver Broncos (2019-22), Los Angeles Rams (2023), Seattle Seahawks (2023) and New York Jets (2023). He has appeared in 11 games, including four starts, and recorded 950 passing yards and four touchdowns in his career.

2023 | LOS ANGLES RAMS/SEATTLE SEAHAWKS/NEW YORK JETS

• Appeared in two games (one start) for the Los Angeles Rams, before contributing to the practice squad of the Seattle Seahawks and finishing the season on the New York Jets' active roster.
• Started for the Rams on the road against the Packers in Week 9 after appearing in his first game with Los Angeles in Week 8 at Dallas.
• In his two outings of game action, completed 18-of-38 attempts for 172 yards with one interception, adding 19 yards rushing on three attempts.

2022 | DENVER BRONCOS

• Played in four games, making two starts.
• Completed 53-of-88 passes (60.2%) for 483 yards and two touchdowns.
• Led Denver to a victory in Week 15 against the Cardinals, completing 21-of-26 attempts, registering a career-high 80.8 completion percentage (min. 15 attempts), for 197 yards. Also posted a career-best 95.0 passer rating.
• His 80.8 completion percentage in the Week 15 win over Arizona marked the highest by a Broncos quarterback in 2022 (min. 20 attempts) and was the best mark since 2019.

2021 | DENVER BRONCOS

• Appeared in one game for the Broncos, closing out the Week 17 contest against the Chargers.

2020 | DENVER BRONCOS

• Saw action on three occasions, including one start, totaling 295 passing yards on 27 completions with two touchdowns.
• Started in the Week 4 win over the New York Jets, completing 19-of-31 passes (61.3%) for a career-high 242 passing yards and two touchdowns, including a 48-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

2019 | DENVER BRONCOS

• Spent his rookie season on the Broncos' practice squad.

COLLEGE - BOISE STATE

• Appeared in 50 games (49 starts) and finished his career as the Mountain West's all-time leader in passing yards (13,581), completions (1,036) and 300-yard passing games (21).
• Also concluded his career as Boise State's all-time leader in 300-yard games, passing Kellen Moore (2008-11), and ranked second all-time in passing yards, completions, and attempts.
• During his final campaign in 2018, he was named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year and earned his third selection to the All-Mountain West First Team.
• Capped his final season with career-highs in passing yards (3,705), completions (301), attempts (447), and touchdown passes (30).

• During his senior season, broke the state single-season record of 4,552 yards.
• 2014 Washington State Player of the Year and three-time Washington 3A All-State honoree.
• Honored as the 2013 Junior Male Athlete of the Year, as voted by the Inland Northwest Sportswriters and Broadcasters
• Threw for eight touchdowns twice, sharing the state single-game record with former Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore.
• Also played baseball for Shadle Park.

• Son of Tim and Julie Rypien.
• Father played minor league baseball.
• His uncle, Mark Rypien, was selected by the Washington Redskins in the sixth round of the 1986 NFL draft and named the MVP of Super Bowl XXVI.
• Married his wife, Laura, on April 9, 2022.
