RECENTLY SAID

"A big part of my career was when I went to work for Mike Shanahan (in 1995). He made me a better football coach, and there was a kid in high school, and that was Kyle Shanahan. And we watched his career grow. Still, the elements, the run game, of Alex Gibbs, those are the origins of Mike Shanahan. They do the zone scheme as well as anybody, they have the complementary plays, they're just really hard to play against. And their offense keeps evolving over the years. I just love playing against them because I know they're going to tax us and teach us something."

— Vikings Defensive Coordinator Ed Donatell

STAT OF THE DAY

4.29 — The Vikings defense limited the Raiders to 4.29 yards per play, which is the fifth-best mark through Week 1 of the preseason.
