Lynn Hanson lives on the California coast. The subjects of her work are ocean swimmers, lifeguards, and surfers; for reference she often photographs them at triathlons and competitive ocean swims. The resulting drawings and paintings are large scale, eight feet in height. Another series of large scale portraits documents internationally renowned California artists such as Ed Ruscha, Mark Bradford, and Robert Graham. Hanson also makes drawings on large vintage maps, mostly indigenous wildlife such as crows, rattlesnakes, octopi, and wolves.
