EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings on Friday announced the signing of cornerback Jameson Houston one day ahead of concluding the 2023 preseason by hosting the Cardinals.

In order to make room for Houston on the roster, the Vikings waived tackle Chim Okorafor.

Houston appeared in two games for the XFL's San Antonio Brahmas this spring.

The Texas native played college football at Baylor, where he appeared in 48 games for the Bears from 2016-19. Houston totaled 86 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, an interception, 17 passes defensed, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. Houston was named First-Team Academic All-Big 12 and received an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention as a senior.

He first entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Browns but was waived in August 2020. He then spent a stint with the Panthers and his former college coach Matt Rhule but was waived during final roster cuts.

Houston joined the Eagles practice squad that November and appeared in three games for Philadelphia, totaling 22 snaps on defense and 22 more on special teams.

The Eagles traded Houston to the Jaguars in May 2021, but he was waived by Jacksonville that August.

Houston was drafted by the USFL's Michigan Panthers in 2022 before returning to the NFL with the Seahawks in August 2022. The XFL's Vegas Vipers drafted Houston in 2023 before he wound up landing with the Brahmas.
