Guide to Game Day: Vikings to Host Lions During Annual Crucial Catch Game

The Vikings are set to host the Lions at noon (CT) Sunday in the first of two scheduled meetings between the NFC North foes.

The 120th overall meeting between the squads is falling on the annual Crucial Catch: Intercept Cancer game. Patients, survivors and caregivers will be recognized and supported, and tributes will be paid to those who have died from the disease.

Crucial Catch, which is in its 13th season, encourages people to catch cancer early, when it may be easier to treat, through annual screenings. For more than a year, however, the COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically reduced screenings. At the height of the pandemic, some cancer screenings declined by 90 percent.

Through Crucial Catch, the NFL and American Cancer Society are allocating resources dedicated to safely restarting cancer screenings in communities with the most need. For many forms of cancer (breast, cervical, colorectal and prostate), the five-year survival rate is above 90 percent when detected early before it has a chance to spread.

The unifying efforts by the NFL and its teams include the use of specially designed, multicolored gear and equipment as a sign of support for people and their caregivers who are battling multiple types of cancer, as well as those who have passed away.

The game-worn Crucial Catch merchandise will be auctioned on nfl.com/auction. The NFL and its clubs do not profit from the sale of Crucial Catch merchandise. More than $23 million has been raised for the American Cancer Society since 2009.

The Vikings also produced a limited-edition "SKOL STRONG" T-shirt that is available with a $25 donation to the American Cancer Society. The shirts are available at U.S. Bank Stadium or online.

Vänskä is in his final year as music director in 2021-2022.

The piece is part of the new "Showtime" sequence that features new dramatic team introductions prefaced by Vikings Ring of Honor member Jim Marshall's "Odin Story." The ironman and longtime team captain who started a franchise-record 270 consecutive games will lead other Legends in a video.

Note: The Vikings strongly suggest fans try to make it to their seats by 11:45 a.m.
