EAGAN, Minn. — Justin Jefferson just wants the best man to win.

The Vikings receiver spoke with Twin Cities media members following Friday's training camp practice and answered multiple questions about the quarterback competition between J.J. McCarthy and Kyler Murray. Among the inquiries was whether it's difficult to remain neutral on which passer comes out on top.

In Jefferson's mind, it's pretty simple.

"It's all on who comes to practice and who's the better guy," he offered nonchalantly. "And at this point, it's still early in training camp for any of us to understand or know who's the No. 1 guy.

"It's just all about pouring into both of them and making sure that whoever [that guy is], at the end of the day we're not starting over or starting fresh," Jefferson said. "We're just going right from where we left off in camp and what we've been doing every single day."

Jefferson has been catching passes from both quarterbacks, who have been divvying up reps with the first-team offense. He also spent "spurts of time" with each during the team's summer break between minicamp and training camp.

Nothing beats the value of daily work, though, and Jefferson is taking advantage of every snap.

"I see a lot of great plays being made out there. I see, really, a lot of learning out there," Jefferson said. "We're really just all trying to get on the same page, get connected like we know we should be. And once it all gets dialed in, the connection, the relationship, all of that stuff just comes together."

Murray, who signed with the Vikings as a free agent this spring, told media Wednesday he's spent time every day in Minnesota's playbook as he learns a new system. The homework has paid off, as Jefferson noted Murray is "definitely getting more comfortable" with Kevin O'Connell's scheme.

Jefferson acknowledged the "very complex and very difficult" offense.

"A lot of moving parts and moving pieces to it," he said. "So just like I said, the communication part of it — talking to him (Murray) and making sure he understands where I need to be, where he would like me to be, all of those different things. Being on that same page is a key factor."

Coming off a season in which he caught passes from three different quarterbacks (McCarthy, Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer) and saw lower production than previous seasons, Jefferson also is used to how quickly things can change in a season — and the need to make adjustments to an offense based on how defenses are covering him.

Jefferson emphasized the way defenses evolve and adapt and how that impacts the way Minnesota utilizes him on any given game day.

"Every year people learn new things, new techniques, new defenses, new schemes to better themselves and better their defenses," Jefferson said. "So, every single year we're trying to find different ways to move me around the offense, get me matched up on guys we want to be matched up on, and try to get as [few] double teams as possible — which is difficult.

"That's why we have so many guys on this offense, as well," he added, "to spread the ball around, to get guys in space and to get guys to create those big moments, big plays and get us down the field."
