EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings famously benefited from a double doink in the NFL's International Series in 2022.

Now, they're heading toward a double dip during the 2025 regular season.

The NFL Network's Good Morning Football on Tuesday announced the Minnesota Vikings will play the Pittsburgh Steelers in the league's first regular-season game ever hosted by Ireland.

"Playing in Ireland's first-ever NFL game is an opportunity to introduce new fans to the Minnesota Vikings and help the league continue to make the game of football more accessible globally," said Vikings Owner/President Mark Wilf. "To do so against a storied franchise like the Pittsburgh Steelers adds a unique challenge that makes this even more special. We are honored to be selected for this historic game and will be anxious to see what promises to be an electric game day environment in Croke Park."

Minnesota will follow that Week 4 appearance at Croke Park in Dublin by skipping across the Irish Sea — Muir Éireann — to face the Cleveland Browns in Week 5 at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

"Our experiences in London have always been memorable, so to return in 2025 as the first team to play in back-to-back international games in different countries was something we could not pass up," Wilf said. "UK fans have a history of showing up and embracing the Minnesota Vikings, creating what often feels like a homefield environment, and we are hopeful that is what we see again in 2025."

Vikings Head Coach Kevin O'Connell on Tuesday participated in a video press conference with media members in Ireland and a separate virtual session with UK media members to explain the team's excitement and approach.

"I'm certainly looking at this as a genuine, great opportunity. It's one thing to play in some of these international opportunities that the NFL has done such a great job of putting together, but to be the first, to be the first in such a wonderful place like Dublin and with such a great sports culture already, a great venue in Croke Park and 82,000-plus," O'Connell said. "When you think about opportunities to play in unique atmospheres and environments that are experiences for your players, what better way to do that than to play in Dublin for the first time in the regular season, which is a big deal to us.

"The two-game trip gives us an unbelievable opportunity to take our team on the road, get away from a lot of the day-to-day things that may be pulling players in any other direction. It feels almost like a training camp," O'Connell added. "It feels almost like a trip to allow us to come together closer than ever, build our team camaraderie and culture even stronger, which has been such a strong asset to us over three years here."

Last year, for their Week 5 game against the Jets, the Vikings left on a Thursday night and arrived in London Friday morning. The team stayed the night after the contest before traveling back Monday for its Week 6 bye.

Although O'Connell said he would not know until Wednesday's complete release of the schedule when Minnesota's 2025 bye week will occur, he did say it is the team's hope for it to fall again in Week 6.

O'Connell said the team will try to keep its preparations as consistent as possible but also plans to engage in learning more about the history and culture of Ireland, despite limited time there, and continuing to develop relationships in the UK. The Vikings are 2-0 in the UK during his tenure.

"The way I looked at it is from a standpoint of it being a positive opportunity from both a football side and a business side," O'Connell said. "For the organization, we're very proud of our organization. We get to be the first team to do something like this. Jacksonville has done two consecutive weeks, both in the same spot, but we'll get an opportunity to be in two different locations, to expose the Minnesota Vikings brand to all the great folks in Ireland, but then also make sure we get a chance to come to a place where we've not only been successful, but we feel a growing fan base. The support is always very strong for our team."

Minnesota's historic participation is part of a league-record slate involving seven games and five host countries.

The Steelers and Browns were due to welcome the Vikings to Pittsburgh and Cleveland, respectively, as part of the NFL's schedule rotation.

Instead, it will be an opportunity for the Vikings to defend their undefeated record on international soil not once but twice within a season.

Vikings Travel to Dublin & London in 2025 🇮🇪 🇬🇧

The Vikings are excited to compete in the 2025-26 NFL International Games as the designated visiting team!

Vikings at Steelers: Sunday, Sept. 28, Croke Park, Dublin
Vikings at Browns: Sunday, Oct. 5, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

Minnesota is 4-0 in exhibition contests dating back to 1983 and 4-0 in regular-season skirmishes, a run that interestingly began in 2013 when the Vikings defeated the Steelers in London.

The Vikings topped the Browns there four years later in 2017 on the way to winning the NFC North.

Five years later, Minnesota outlasted a comeback attempt by New Orleans when a 61-yard field goal attempt to try to force overtime hit the left upright and crossbar but fell shy of going through on the game's final play.

This will be the first time the Vikings have visited London in consecutive seasons. Minnesota intercepted longtime nemesis Aaron Rodgers three times, including one Andrew Van Ginkel returned 63 yards for a touchdown, to prevail 23-17 against the New York Jets last season.

Minnesota's full 2025 schedule will be announced at 7 p.m. (CT) May 14.

Entering 2025, there have been 55 regular-season international games in league history, including 39 in London, six in Toronto, five in Mexico City, four in Germany and the 2024 opener in Brazil.

At the conclusion of the double dip, the Vikings will have played six international games, which ranks fourth among all NFL teams behind the Jaguars and Dolphins (14 and 8, respectively, including 2025) and Bills (6 of 8 were held in Toronto).

Croke Park is the principal national stadium of Ireland and serves as headquarters for the Gaelic Athletic Association. It has a capacity of 82,300 (69,100 seats).

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium opened in April 2019 and hosted its first NFL game that season. The venue has hosted 10 NFL games entering 2025.
