Xavier Rhodes Camp Inspires Youth to Set Goals

MINNEAPOLIS — Xavier Rhodes recently helped young people enjoy incredible moments on the field of U.S. Bank Stadium and encouraged them to cast their eyes on future goals.

The Vikings cornerback hosted the Xavier Rhodes MATTERbox Challege InSports Football Camp for young people, grades 1 through 6.

In addition to participating in on-field drills and signing autographs for campers, Rhodes encouraged attendees to do their best toward living healthy lifestyles and to do so soon.

"Teach them early, it becomes a habit and in their daily routine to have them think about eating something healthy," Rhodes said.

Campers wrote down personal goals on football-themed pieces of paper.

MATTER Foundation President Quenton Marty said Rhodes' encouragement helped reinforce the camp's message.

"We all need to be reminded to look to the future and say, 'What do I want my life to be like or what do I want my season to be like or this next school year," Marty said. "It means a lot to the kids to be able to write it down with him and memorialize it and hopefully build it into their future."

The MATTERbox program works to provide equal access to healthy food in areas known as "food deserts" where a shortage of nutritional food can increase likelihood of obesity, diabetes and pre-diabetes. The program provides boxes of healthy food and nutritional education materials through a packing and delivery by MATTER, which is headquartered in the Twin Cities.
