Vikings Sign Offensive Tackle Riley Reiff

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The Vikings announced on Friday that the team has signed free agent offensive tackle Riley Reiff.

The 28-year-old Reiff was the 23rd overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. Reiff, who is entering his sixth professional season, has appeared in 77 games with 69 career starts.

Reiff was Detroit's starting left tackle from 2013-2015 before switching to the right side in 2016. He helped the Lions make the playoffs as a Wild Card team with a 9-7 record.

The durable and versatile tackle has missed three games over the past four seasons since becoming a full-time starter. He was used as a blocking tight end during his rookie season before making his first career start at left tackle in place of Jeff Backus on Thanksgiving Day against Houston.

Reiff, a native of Parkston, South Dakota, was a three-year starter at the University of Iowa. He committed to the Hawkeyes after playing defensive end and tight end in high school but was an offensive lineman after redshirting in 2008.

Reiff's hometown is 35 miles from the hometown of Chad Greenway, who also played collegiately at Iowa. Greenway retired Tuesday after 11 seasons with the Vikings.

Reiff started 37 games for Iowa, primarily at left tackle, but also played left guard and right tackle. He was a First-Team All-American as a senior.

Reiff was ranked as the No. 19 overall free agent by NFL.com and the No. 24 overall free agent by ESPN.
