Vikings Re-Sign Jeremiah Sirles

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The Vikings on Wednesday announced that Jeremiah Sirles has re-signed for 2017.

The offensive lineman, who played tackle and guard for the Vikings in 2016, tweeted about the re-signing on Tuesday night:

Sirles started nine of the 13 games he played in 2016, plugging for injuries early in the season before manning the right tackle spot in Weeks 11-17. Sirles' first appeared for the Vikings in the 2016 season opener.

He filled in at left guard when Alex Boone suffered an injury in Week 3 and stepped in at right tackle the following week when Andre Smith was lost for the season. Sirles made his first start for the Vikings in Week 5 and also started in Week 6 at Philadelphia, but split time with T.J. Clemmings against the Eagles as the Vikings worked Jake Long into the mix at left tackle by moving Clemmings from left to right.

After Long was lost for the season at Washington, Clemmings moved to left tackle, and Sirles started the final seven games of the season at right tackle.

Originally an undrafted free agent with the Chargers out of Nebraska in 2014, the Colorado native will enter his fourth NFL season and third with the Vikings. He was first acquired by Minnesota before the 2015 season in a trade with the Chargers for a sixth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
