EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Justin Jefferson continues to write his name in the record books.
With his fourth catch of the first half at the Giants Sunday, Jefferson broke Jarvis Landry's record for the most interceptions in a player's first six NFL seasons.
Landry totaled 564 with Miami (first four seasons) and Cleveland. Jefferson entered the Week 16 game with 561 on the heels of three consecutive games with only two catches in each contest. Those six had totaled 37 yards.
Minnesota was able to get the ball to him on its third offensive snap — a third-and-11 throw shy of the sticks — and the playmaker did the rest, weaving his way through defenders for a gain of 13.
That possession ended with a 43-yard field goal by Will Reichard.
Jefferson also converted a third-and-12 with a gain of 14 on another pass shy of the sticks on Minnesota's second possession. That drive, however, ended when a pass bounced off Jalen Nailor and was intercepted by Paulson Adebo.
McCarthy and Jefferson reconnected twice on Minnesota's third possession.
The first instance resulted in a gain of 16 on a well-designed screen on second-and-5, and the second play gained 14 on a third-and-15, setting up Minnesota to convert a fourth-and-1 with a run by Aaron Jones, Sr., on the way to a field goal and 6-3 lead with 4:50 remaining in the first half.
