Justin Jefferson, Ja'Marr Chase Join Randy Moss on 'Sunday NFL Countdown'

They say it takes one to know one, and Randy Moss knows receivers.

The Vikings Ring of Honor and Pro Football Hall of Fame member has returned to cohosting Sunday NFL Countdown after navigating bile duct cancer, and Moss this week highlighted a pair of dynamic receivers.

Ahead of Minnesota's Week 3 contest against Cincinnati, Moss chatted with former LSU teammates Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase who, since playing together and helping the Tigers win a CFP National Championship, have continued to make incredible plays, now at the NFL level.

Moss knew just how to kick off the interview: Which college football program has earned the right to be nicknamed "Wide Receiver U"?

He referenced Ohio State, which widely garners the moniker, much to the chagrin of Jefferson and Chase.

As far as making the case for LSU?

"There isn't much to say, man. The proof is in the pudding," Jefferson argued. "What we've done already, what we've been doing in the league … we're Wide Receiver U. Regardless of any other conversation or any opinions. The proof is in the pudding."

Added Chase: "They see what we've been putting out."

It's hard to argue with the numbers.

Jefferson and Chase have racked up 41 and 47 receiving touchdowns, respectively. Jefferson, a 2020 first-round pick, has totaled an impressive 7,557 receiving yards and last week tied Minneapolis native (and former Vikings ball boy) Larry Fitzgerald as the youngest player in NFL history (26 years and 90 days) to record 500 catches. Chase, a 2021 first-round selection, has recorded 5,616 career receiving yards thus far for the Bengals.

And though they shared a college locker room, Jefferson and Chase continue striving to outdo each other.

"It's always a competition," Jefferson told Moss.

"But we don't talk about it, you know what I'm sayin'?" Chase added. "Bro goes out there and does his thing, and he knows I'm coming [right behind him]. We do our best to out-step one another. That's how it's always been. And it's always going to be like that."

Don't expect Sunday to be any different.

As the Vikings (1-1) welcome the Bengals (2-0) to U.S. Bank Stadium, Jefferson and Chase each are looking to make impact plays and steal the spotlight.

Both will be working to do so with backup quarterbacks, however. Carson Wentz, who signed with Minnesota just before the regular season, will start in place of an injured J.J. McCarthy, while Jake Browning will step in for the Bengals after Joe Burrow suffered a toe injury in last week's game.

"I feel like, regardless of who's throwing that ball, we've been making it a point to where no quarterback is the person who makes this whole boat float," Jefferson said. "We really rely on ourselves to go out there and beat the coverage and catch the ball — regardless of where the ball is thrown and how the ball is thrown, and who is throwing it.

"I can probably speak [for Chase], too," he continued. "We always feel like we're the best out there on the field. In order to show that, no quarterback can say they're the one who 'made' Ja'Marr Chase or 'made' Justin Jefferson. We go out there ourselves and put in the work regardless of who's throwing that ball."

Jefferson and Chase take responsibility for their teams seriously, and they each are hungry for a win Sunday.

Of course, they won't ever share the field — but you can bet they'll exchange words.

"Justin's on the field, about to drive down, where's Ja'Marr Chase? What is Ja'Marr Chase doing?" Moss asked.

"Oh, I'm on the sideline, and I'm callin' his name, for sure," Chase said. "He knows that. He knows that."

And when the tables are turned?

"Shoot, if he's gonna be talkin' to me, I'm gonna be talking back to him," Jefferson laughed. "Best believe we're gonna have that competitive aspect the whole game. I'm gonna get in his ear, he's gonna get in mine, and we're gonna see who comes out on top."
