Vikings Sign Wide Receiver Garett Maag

EAGAN, Minn. — A day after Vikings tight end Ben Ellefson announced his retirement from playing in the NFL, the team on Friday announced the signing of another Minnesota native.

Receiver Garett Maag, an Inver Grove Heights native who played high school football at St. Croix Lutheran, is joining the Vikings as a rookie free agent.

Maag played in 49 games at North Dakota from 2018-22. He totaled 162 receptions for 2,152 yards and 18 touchdowns for the Fighting Hawks and was selected as a team captain in each of the past two seasons.

Ellefson, a native of Hawley, announced his retirement via his Instagram account on Thursday.
