Vikings Snap Counts: Davidson Tops Offense; Dorn Goes Distance for Defense at Denver

EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings closed their 2022 preseason with a 23-13 loss to the Broncos in Denver.

Minnesota announced before the game a list of 33 players who were not expected to play.

Who did play the most?

On offense, the Vikings were led by tight end Zach Davidson, who played 47 of 65 snaps for the group. Davidson led Minnesota with four catches and totaled 47 yards on six targets. He also played 17 special teams snaps.

Safety Myles Dorn led Minnesota's defense, playing all 63 snaps. Cornerback Kris Boyd played 61 for the defense, and rookie linebacker Brian Asamoah II showed grit on 60 defensive snaps despite having his ankle rolled up on early in the game.

Outside linebackers Zach McCloud (22) and Luiji Vilain (21) played the most special teams snaps.

Here's a look at Minnesota's snap counts from Preseason Week 3:

— Sean Mannion started and played the entire first half at quarterback (34 offensive snaps). Kellen Mond played the entire second half (31 snaps).

— Guard Kyle Hinton and tackle Timon Parris tied for the most snaps among offensive linemen (44 each). Tackle Olisaemeka Udoh, Blake Brandel (played tackle and guard) and Chris Reed (played guard and center) each played 34 snaps. Center Josh Sokol, tackle Vederian Lowe and guard Wyatt Davis each played 31 snaps. Jesse Davis (started at left guard) and Austin Schlottmann (started at center) each played 21 snaps.

— Kene Nwangwu started at running back for Minnesota but played just six snaps. Bryant Koback played the second-most offensive snaps (45) of any Viking. Ty Chandler played 14 offensive snaps and rushed for 44 yards on five carries.

— Tight end Ben Ellefson started when Minnesota opened with two tight ends. He played seven snaps on offense. Seventh-round pick Nick Muse played 25 snaps on offense.

— Trishton Jackson (43), Ihmir Smith-Marsette (42) and Myron Mitchell (38) played the most among Vikings receivers. Smith-Marsette handled punt returns. Jalen Nailor played 31 snaps on offense, and Bisi Johnson played 27. Johnson suffered a knee injury on his sixth special teams snap and left the game.

— Defensively, Vilain (55) and McCloud (53) led Minnesota's outside linebackers. Pat Jones II started opposite Vilain, who recorded an interception early, and played 18 snaps on defense.

— The Vikings were thin at inside linebacker heading into the game, prompting the need for Asamoah to grind his way through. Undrafted rookie William Kwenkeu played 49 snaps. Troy Dye started alongside Asamoah and played nine snaps on defense before aggravating an injury from earlier in the week.
