Vikings Toppled by Cardinals 34-33

The Vikings lost in excruciating fashion Sunday, falling 34-33 to the Cardinals in Arizona, as a 37-yard field goal by Greg Joseph sailed wide right as time expired.

Joseph also missed an extra point after Minnesota's third touchdown, which created the off-kilter score in a game that included seven lead changes.

Arizona surged ahead with two touchdowns in a span of less than two minutes.

Murray scored the first on a 12-yard designed run, and then launched a bomb to Rondale Moore for a 77-yard touchdown on a one-play possession.

Joseph had kicked a pair of 52-yard field goals, including one for a 23-21 lead, but the Cardinals stormed right back with a 62-yard field goal by Matt Prater as the first half expired.

Nick Vigil intercepted Kyler Murray and returned the football 38 yards for his first career touchdown to open the second half, giving Minnesota a 30-24 lead.

The Cardinals quickly bounced back with a touchdown drive.

Minnesota reclaimed the lead with Joseph's second long field goal less than a minute into the fourth quarter.

Arizona took a 34-33 lead with 4:25 remaining.

Kirk Cousins led Minnesota down the field, aiming for his 17th-game winning drive. He converted a third-and-10 with a 12-yard pass to Adam Thielen to move the ball to the Arizona 36-yard line.

Cousins followed with two completions to K.J. Osborn that gained a total of 17 yards to the Arizona 19.

There was time to run an additional play or plays but Head Coach Mike Zimmer opted to run the clock down to 0:04 remaining before using his third timeout.

Minnesota fell to 0-2 on the season, and Arizona improved to 2-0.

Cousins finished 22-of-32 passing with 244 yards and three scores for a passer rating of 122.4.

Osborn led Minnesota with 91 receiving yards, highlighted by his first career touchdown.

Justin Jefferson added 65 yards and a score on six catches, and Thielen caught six passes for 39 yards and a touchdown.

Dalvin Cook led Minnesota with 131 yards rushing on 22 carries.

The Vikings converted just 2-of-10 third downs; the Cardinals were 3-for-9.

Minnesota finished with 419 yards but allowed 474.

Danielle Hunter recorded 3.0 sacks for the Vikings.
