Vikings Fall at Home to Colts

MINNEAPOLIS — Number 28 came back for the Vikings, but Minnesota fell behind by 27 at halftime and lost 34-6.

Adrian Peterson played for the first time since suffering a torn meniscus in Week 2, but the running back was limited to 22 yards on six carries and had a fumble at the end of a 13-yard run in the red zone.

Minnesota's defense, which entered the game as the stingiest in the NFL at 17.3 points per game and second in yards allowed (304.3 per game) struggled with a balanced Indianapolis attack.

Frank Gore rushed 26 times for 101 yards, and Robert Turbin gained 32 yards on seven carries that included two touchdowns.

Andrew Luck completed 21 of 28 passes for 250 yards and two scores for a passer rating of 125.6.

The Vikings moved the chains to open the second half, but Robert Mathis forced a fumble during a sack of Sam Bradford, and Indianapolis took over at its own 33-yard line.

Bradford finished 32-of-42 passing for 291 yards but also threw an interception before halftime. He finished with a passer rating of 84.5 and was sacked a total of five times.

Minnesota scratched the scoreboard with 3:51 left in the third quarter on a 32-yard field goal by Kai Forbath. The kicker added a 51-yarder in the fourth quarter to improve to 12-for-12 on the season.

Indianapolis never trailed and improved to 7-7 on the season while knocking the Vikings down to 7-7 with two games to play.

The Colts drove 46 yards on 11 plays to take a 3-0 lead with a 48-yard field goal by Adam Vinatieri. Indianapolis opened with three straight runs by Gore and later converted a third-and-8 with a 12-yard pass to T.Y. Hilton.

Luck scrambled for a gain of 8 on third-and-10 to move well within Vinatieri's range.

Indianapolis added a touchdown on its second possession, benefitting from a leverage penalty on Linval Joseph during a 21-yard field goal attempt for a fresh set of downs at the 1. Turbin plunged into the end zone for a 10-0 lead.

Minnesota continued to struggle on offense, and the Colts marched for touchdown drives of 92 yards and 91 yards in the second quarter.

Luck completed a 27-yard scoring pass to Erik Swoope for a 17-0 lead with 7:16 left in the first half.

Cordarrelle Patterson returned the ensuing kickoff 40 yards to the 35, and the Vikings took possession at midfield after a 15-yard late hit penalty against the Colts.

Bradford connected with Kyle Rudolph for a gain of 22, and Peterson followed with a 13-yard rush but fumbled at the end of the play. Mike Adams forced the fumble and recovered the ball at the Indianapolis 9-yard line.

Turbin capped the 91-yard drive with a 6-yard run, breaking three tackles on his way to the end zone.

Bradford was intercepted by Adams on the Vikings following snap, and the Colts added a 50-yard field goal for a 27-0 lead at halftime.

The Colts earned 21 first downs in the first half and were 5-for-8 on third downs. Indianapolis allowed two first downs and limited the Vikings to 69 yards in the first half.

Indianapolis started the fourth quarter with a 50-yard touchdown from Luck to Phillip Dorsett.

Rudolph led the Vikings with eight catches for 97 yards. Jerick McKinnon also had nine receptions for 59 yards.
