6:00 PM - Sherels Inactive Against Bears

The Vikings just announced their inactives for Monday night's game against the Bears in Chicago.

In addition to being without starting safety Andrew Sendejo and running back Jerick McKinnon, Minnesota also must fill in for punt return specialist Marcus Sherels.

The Vikings other inactives are: Jarius Wright, Zac Kerin, Sharrif Floyd and MyCole Pruitt.

Minnesota announced that rookie Jayron Kearse is expected to make his first NFL start in place of Sendejo and that Matt Asiata will lead the way at running back.

It will be interesting to see how the Vikings step in for Sherels, who has two punt returns for touchdowns this season and broke free for a 65-yard touchdown at Soldier Field in 2015.

Sherels has been a mainstay at fielding punts since 2011. Cordarrelle Patterson made one fair catch of a punt in 2013. Patterson also received credit for nine yards in Week 1 this season after a reverse, but that play was started with Sherels fielding the punt. Other than that, it's been all-Sherels, all the time.

In the 2015 preseason, the Vikings had Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen join Sherels in returning punts. Diggs returned 10 a total of 217 yards, Sherels returned six for 60 yards and Thielen returned three for 36 yards.

The following players are inactive for the Bears: TE Daniel Brown, DB Bryce Callahan, DL Eddie Goldman, DB Deiondre' Hall, RG Kyle Long, WR Eddie Royal and LG Josh Sitton.

Eric Kush will replace LG Josh Sitton and Ted Larsen will replace RG Kyle Long in tonight's lineup.

5:50 PM - Diggs vs. NFC North

The last time the Vikings visited Soldier Field, Stefon Diggs turned a short completion into a 40-yard touchdown that tied the game at 20 with less than two minutes remaining.

Diggs totaled six catches for 95 yards and the score in his fourth career game.

The effort against the Bears is part of the 2015 fifth-round pick's success so far against the rest of the NFC North.

In six games combined against the Bears, Packers and Lions, Diggs has 31 receptions for 514 yards (16.6 yards per catch) and all five of his receiving touchdowns. He has averaged 5.2 catches and 85.7 yards per game. Nineteen of his 31 catches have resulted in first downs against the division.

In two games against the Bears, Diggs has nine catches for 150 yards and three scores.

Good afternoon from Chicago, where the Vikings will soon be departing their team hotel and be en route to Solider Field for a battle with the Bears. Kickoff is slated for 7:25 PM, with the game available on WCCO Channel 4 in the Twin Cities, and nationally on ESPN.

On Saturday the Vikings ruled out four players, most notably RB Jerick McKinnon and S Andrew Sendejo who are both dealing with ankle injuries suffered in last Sunday's loss to the Eagles. The absence of McKinnon is an especially tough blow to an offense that's of course suffered several injuries already. Matt Asiata and Ronnie Hillman are expected to share carries this evening. Rookie S Jayron Kearse will likely get his first career NFL start opposite Harrison Smith at safety.

We'll find out early this evening if two of the Vikings top special teams players, Cordarrelle Patterson and Marcus Sherels, will be able to play. Patterson suffered a concussion vs. the Eagles and missed two days of practice before being limited on Saturday. Sherels hurt his wrist against Philadelphia and missed all three days of practice last week.

All eyes will again be on the Vikings offensive line tonight after Head Coach Mike Zimmer voiced his displeasure with the group after last Sunday's showing. The Bears are expected to get high-end pass rusher Pernell McPhee back in their lineup tonight, so the Vikings pass protection will again be put to the test.

Conversely, the Bears are dealing with injuries on the offensive line that could pave the way for Minnesota's pass rushers to get after QB Jay Cutler. Pro Bowl G Kyle Long didn't practice all week due to a triceps injury and is listed as doubtful, while G Josh Sitton is dealing with an ankle injury that limited him last week at practice.
