EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings on Monday announced they have signed defensive lineman Smith Vilbert and linebacker Bangally Kamara after both participated in the team's rookie minicamp last week as tryout players.
The announcement happened the same day Vilbert turned 25. He is listed at 6-foot-6 and 282 pounds and played the 2025 season at North Carolina after beginning his college career at Penn State.
Vilbert recorded 22 tackles, six tackles for loss, a sack, two passes defensed, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries in his 12 games with the Tar Heels.
Over the course of 35 games with the Nittany Lions from 2019-24, Vilbert recorded 20 tackles, eight tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one pass defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Kamara, 24, is listed at 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds. He is joining the Vikings after playing the 2025 season at Kansas.
In his lone season with the Jayhawks, Kamara posted 56 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, four passes defensed and one forced fumble in 11 games.
Prior to joining Kansas, Kamara spent 2024 at South Carolina as a reserve but he ultimately wound up redshirting after appearing in four games as a reserve.
Kamara began his college career at Pittsburgh in 2020. He totaled 120 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks, an interception, nine passes defensed, a forced fumble and fumble recovery in 48 games for the Panthers from 2020-23.
