EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings on Saturday signed Myles Gaskin to their practice squad a day after terminating his contract from the 53-man roster.

To make room for Gaskin on the practice squad, Minnesota released receiver Lucky Jackson.

The Vikings also announced the standard elevations of Gaskin and outside linebacker Benton Whitley for the noon Sunday kickoff against the Buccaneers that will open the 2023 regular season.

Minnesota is expected to start Alexander Mattison at running back and has second-year pro Ty Chandler at the position.

Whitley was with the Rams, Chiefs and Vikings in 2022 but did not appear in a game. He spent the preseason with Minnesota but was waived during roster reductions and signed to the Vikings practice squad.

On Friday's final injury report, Minnesota listed outside linebacker Marcus Davenport as questionable because of an ankle injury. If Davenport is unable to play, the Vikings have Danielle Hunter, D.J. Wonnum, Pat Jones II and Andre Carter II on the 53-man roster.
