Justin Jefferson and Andrew Van Ginkel in Week 1, Dallas Turner in Week 2 … say hello to Myles "Jug" Price, who is the newest Viking to be tabbed as a weekly All-Star by FOX Sports.

Whether or not Price dreamed of this distinction is irrelevant after he dreamed up the 86-yard punt return touchdown that he scored during the first quarter Sunday at Tampa Bay.

Price snapped the league's sixth-longest team drought for PR TDs, which dated to Oct. 9, 2016, when Marcus Sherels housed his second of that season — in a span of three games, no less — against the Texans. Price's runback of 86 is tied now with one by Sherels in 2013 for the third longest in franchise history, behind Charlie West (98) and Nate Burleson (91).

Already electric as an undrafted rookie in 2025, Price has taken his game to new heights so far in 2026. In addition to a robust 21.7-yard average on six punt returns, he is first in the NFL with 12 kickoff returns and is averaging close to 30 yards (29.4) on those opportunities.

Greg Auman of FOX Sports wrote the following of Price:

Minnesota won with its defense in Tampa on Sunday, but Price's 86-yard touchdown on a punt return gave the Vikings a 10-0 early lead and helped put the Bucs in an early hole. Special teams had been a strong suit for the Bucs in their first two games, but Price's score was ultimately the difference in a hard-fought, [seven-point] final margin of victory.

By the way, we shouldn't omit that Eric Wilson was mentioned in consideration for his 10-tackle, 1.5-sack performance against the Buccaneers that headlined a six-sack Vikings day.

McCarthy Trade Grade

Head Coach Kevin O'Connell and General Manager Nolan Teasley each spoke Monday about trading 2024 10^th overall pick J.J. McCarthy to the Giants for a 2027 fifth-round pick.

It was characterized as a tough, emotional day that was made in the best interest of the franchise. O'Connell noted, specifically, that the Vikings felt they did their part in the development of McCarthy, who won six of 10 starts in 2025.

Minnesota has three other quarterbacks: Kyler Murray, Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer. Murray played his first full game in Week 3 since October 2025 and took steps toward realizing his potential — and did so primarily without Justin Jefferson, who suffered a sprained ankle.

New York's interest in McCarthy was tied to losing starter Jaxson Dart to a season-ending knee injury suffered in Week 2. Giants backup QB Jameis Winston led them over the Titans, 12-7, on Sunday, while going 14-of-22 passing with 118 yards and no touchdowns or picks.

On Tuesday, ESPN's Seth Walder weighed both sides of the trade and favored the Vikings.

Walder awarded Minnesota a B-plus and gave New York a flat C. He wrote the following:

Even though Murray is a free agent at the end of this season, McCarthy's ship had already sailed in Minnesota after he couldn't beat out Wentz (as the backup). If he wasn't going to be the Vikings backup quarterback, his value would likely have continued to drop. To get a fifth-round pick while saving a few million across his remaining 2026 and 2027 compensation (not nothing!) makes sense. They have uncertainty at quarterback in 2027, yes. But that was true whether McCarthy was there or not.
