Justin Jefferson Ties Randy Moss for 2nd on Vikings Receptions List

MINNEAPOLIS — Justin Jefferson has moved into a tie for No. 2 in Vikings history for career catches.

In the fourth quarter of Minnesota's season opener against Green Bay, Jefferson nabbed his eighth reception of the game and brought his career total to 587 — tying Randy Moss' 587 in Purple for second all-time in team history.

Jefferson now eyes Cris Carter's 1,004 receptions at the top of Vikings history and will have his first opportunity to pass Moss at Chicago in Week 2.

Jefferson posted five receptions for 76 yards in the first half, highlighted by a 39-yard touchdown reception from Carson Wentz for Minnesota's first trip to the paint of 2026. He added a 2-point conversion to give Minnesota a 25-22 lead with 6:37 remaining in the game.

Jefferson returned to the paint once more in the fourth quarter, diving to finish a 9-yard touchdown and tie Moss on the Vikings receptions leaderboard. That touchdown made it 39-22 with 3:55 remaining, ending a run of 29 unanswered points by Minnesota.

Breaking Moss' benchmarks isn't new for Jefferson, who first did so in 2020 when he recorded seven games with 100-plus receiving yards as a rookie; Moss previously held the Vikings record with four in 1998.

"Jets" sailed past Moss again in 2021, this time for most receiving yards in a player's first two seasons. Jefferson's 3,016 in that span rank first in NFL history ahead of Odell Beckham, Jr., (2,755) and Moss (2,726).

Jefferson set the league record for most receiving yards in a player's first three seasons, once again passing Beckham and Moss, and that same season notched his 20th career game with at least 100 receiving yards, besting Moss' 19 through three seasons.

In 2024, Jefferson became the fastest player in Vikings history to hit the 400-catch threshold by doing so in his 62nd game; Moss held the previous mark at 78.

Jefferson also passed Moss in career games with 100-plus receiving yards, recording his 31st such contest in Week 8 of the 2024 campaign. He's since increased that total to 37.

Needless to say, Jefferson is in good company with Moss, who in 2018 was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Moss was inducted into the Vikings Ring of Honor one year prior.

Jefferson emphasized in a 2024 interview the significance of sharing ranks with Moss.

"I'm definitely grateful to be in the same conversation as a great, somebody that has that Gold Jacket, a place where I'm trying to get," he said. "But to see what he has done and what he meant to me as a little kid and to now be in the same conversations with him and to have my name right next to his is always gonna be something special for me."
