Justin Jefferson Passes Randy Moss, Moves to No. 2 on Vikings Career Catches List

"Jets" has flown past Randy Moss in another stat category.

Vikings WR Justin Jefferson made his 588th career reception Sunday in wet-and-rainy Chicago, moving into the No. 2 spot on Minnesota's all-time receptions list.

The grab happened on just the second play of the game and went for 30 yards. After an 8-yard run by Aaron Jones, Sr., Carson Wentz dropped back and sent the ball sailing down the left sideline to No. 18.

Jefferson's long reception set up Minnesota to continue downfield on a drive that ended with a 35-yard field goal by Will Reichard, putting the Vikings on the board first.

Jefferson made eight catches against the Packers last week to tie Moss; his 92 yards and two scores in the Border Battle helped the Vikings seal a thrilling comeback victory.

Reaching the new benchmark on the road at Soldier Field is apt for Jefferson, who helped the Vikings enter the game with a six-game win streak at the venue that began in his rookie season. He put up nice numbers against the division rivals, as well, entering Sunday's matchup with 59 catches for 790 yards and four touchdowns through 10 total games against the Bears.

Asked earlier this week about the potential of passing Moss during the Week 2 outing, Jefferson reflected on what it means to be in this position.

"It means a lot just to always be in these different conversations with Randy and see the different things that I've accomplished ever since I've stepped foot in this league. It's very special," Jefferson said. "It's really a blessing from God to be able to compete with the greats in his league, the people that I've looked up to my whole entire life, people that I've dreamed of being like and being better than."

Wentz, who grew up a Vikings fan and attended games at the Metrodome, appreciated the opportunity to nudge Jefferson past Moss, who visited TCO Performance Center during Vikings Training Camp.

"Randy's pretty good. I had a Randy Moss jersey growing up. It's been cool to see him around the building too, in camp and stuff," Wentz said. I'd expect that record to be passed this week and cool to be able to do that."

Jefferson now can set his sights on Cris Carter's 1,004 receptions at the top of Vikings history.

Carter stopped by TCO Performance Center last week and congratulated Jefferson on tying his former teammate.

"Being at the mark you're at, that's not your potential anymore," Carter said. "You're going to have to try to double it and come catch me. When I was in the Vikings uniform, I looked up all the records, and my goal was to not only break those records but one day have my name in the rafters. That's what your goal should be. Congrats and good luck. I'll be here for your whole journey."
