EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings on Wednesday announced the release of defensive linemen Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave as the 2026 New League Year began.

Both had joined the Vikings as free agents in March 2025.

Allen started all 17 games, logging 811 defensive snaps (76 percent). He recorded 68 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, 11 quarterback hits and a fumble recovery against Cincinnati in September.

Hargrave started 15 of 16 games played and recorded 52 tackles, four tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, six quarterback hits and a nifty forced fumble and recovery against Washington in December.

The 2025 season started with quite a splash. Hargrave recorded 2.0 sacks in Minnesota's win at Chicago for his eighth career game with at least 2.0, but he totaled just 1.5 more the rest of the way.

The moves provide Minnesota with some relief against a tight salary cap situation.
