EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings are continuing to support girls flag football at the grassroots level.
The team announced Wednesday it has agreed to a three-year partnership extension with the Minnesota Star Tribune to further promote high school girls flag football throughout the state. Both parties share a steadfast commitment to the fastest-growing high school sport, which grew from 51 teams participating in 2025 to an incredible 104 teams this year.
"In just its second year, high school girls flag football has sparked widespread excitement and growth across Minnesota," Vikings Vice President of Social Impact Brett Taber said. "We're proud to extend our partnership with the Star Tribune for another three years as we continue to elevate these athletes, share their stories and fuel the sport's rapid growth — not just in our own state but nationwide."
Key aspects of the partnership include the following:
— Expanded news coverage of Minnesota Vikings girls flag football programming
— Integrated weekly scores, statistics and standing updates on the Strib Varsity Girls Flag Football Hub
— Statewide livestream coverage of the Minnesota Vikings Girls Flag Football Championship tournament on Monday, June 8 on stribvarsity.com
"The girls, their teams and the Vikings — they all have a lot to live up to in Year 2. Last spring in Year 1, we had a total blast with our partnership and having a front-row seat to a historic season," said Strib Varsity Director Chris Carr. "We're ready to bring it again. This partnership means a lot to us. Congrats to the girls and all the schools – and certainly to the Vikings, too – on this exceptional growth, participation and excitement."
The 104 teams in the 2026 league will compete in double headers throughout the regular season beginning April 26, leading up to the playoffs at select high schools before the state championship tournament at TCO Stadium on Monday, June 8.
Since 2022, the Vikings have invested more than $2 million to expand girls flag football and remove barriers to participation across the region. In addition to launching Minnesota's first high school girls flag football league, the Vikings also partnered with seven NCAA institutions to establish the region's first-ever collegiate women's flag league in 2025.
