EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings continued reshaping their coaching staff for 2026 Friday by announcing the hire of assistant offensive line coach Derek Warehime and the promotion of Ryan Cordell to the title of Tight Ends/Game Management Coordinator.
Cordell has been with the Vikings the past four seasons as Game Management Coordinator/Passing Game Specialist and has strong familiarity with the tight ends position group.
Warehime brings more than two decades of collegiate coaching experience to Minnesota and joins the Vikings after a previous stint at the University of Kentucky.
Cordell has worked with Vikings tight ends for each of the past two seasons, helping former position leader and passing game coordinator Brian Angelichio, who was hired as Steelers Offensive Coordinator last month.
Last season, Cordell helped Josh Oliver to a career-best four touchdown receptions, and in 2024, upon the return of TE T.J. Hockenson in Week 9 of the 2024 season, the team's tight ends combined for 61 receptions for 690 receiving yards and led the NFL in yards per catch (11.8 yards/reception) among teams that targeted their tight ends at least 70 times in that span.
Prior to arriving in Minnesota, Cordell was with the Cleveland Browns for three seasons (2019-21), serving as a football research analyst in his first year (2019) before spending his final two seasons as a coaching assistant (2020-21). He also served as the interim running backs coach for the final 10 games of the 2021 season. Cordell began his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers as a salary cap intern in 2014. In his five seasons in San Francisco (2014-18), Cordell was an offensive assistant (2015), football operations coordinator (2016), and the special assistant to the general manager (2017-18).

Warehime was previously named Kentucky's Run Game Coordinator in December of 2025 following three seasons (2023-25) as Coastal Carolina's Offensive Line Coach and Run Game Coordinator. Warehime spent the 2020-22 seasons as New Mexico's Offensive Coordinator and tight ends coach, marking his second stint with the Lobos. He previously served as the team's tight ends coach from 2012-14, assuming run game coordinator responsibilities in 2014.
From 2017-19, Warehime was at the University of Texas where he spent his final season as special teams coordinator and tight ends coach. He coached the offensive line at the University of Houston from 2015-16 and had stops at Sam Houston State (2010-11), Arkansas-Monticello (2008-09), Rice (2006-07) and Tulsa (2005), his alma mater.
Warehime started 34 games at center at Tulsa from 2001-04, and he spent one season playing professionally with the Tulsa Talons of the Arena Football League.
