What'd they say? Lions talk about Vikings

The Vikings (3-2) visit the Lions (1-5) at noon (CT) Sunday to close out the season series between the NFC North foes.

Here are six things that Detroit's coaches and players had to say about Minnesota Head Coach Mike Zimmer and players in videos posted on the Lions official site this week:

1. Lions Head Coach Jim Caldwell on Adrian Peterson:

"It's very difficult to hold him down. Guys that play with the kind of spirit and have the power and drive and quickness that he has, he's got the entire package. Those guys are tough to keep at bay. He's a great player, and great players typically play well, regardless of the setting."

2. Lions Defensive Coordinator Teryl Austin on going against Norv Turner:

"I don't think you have a comfort level because when you go against Norv Turner, he's one of the best in the business at designing an offense, attacking and playing to the offense's strengths, so there's no comfort level in that regard. You do have an idea of some things he may like, but you've got to be on your toes and you've got to be on your A game. If not, he'll expose you.

3. Lions Offensive Coordinator Joe Lombardi on the hits Matthew Stafford took in Week 2

"We all had our hand in that a little bit. There were times he was getting hit and everyone was blocking their guy and they had a free guy running. (Stafford) was trying, you know, he was getting it out because we had an option for him to throw to quickly but they we're getting home a little quicker than you wanted them to, so he was getting it out but getting hit. There were some execution things, too, and then some physical breakdowns so we've got to be smarter as coaches to try and stay out of those situations.

4. Lombardi on facing a Mike Zimmer defense:

"They've got a tough nickel pressure package. You can't watch a game where they're not getting someone free on the quarterback. They do a great job. I think they're as well-coached a defense as you're going to face in the NFL, so we've got to be smart with our game plan."

5. Matthew Stafford on facing the Vikings:

"(Zimmer) does a great job of mixing it up. That's why he's such a good defensive coach. He's got a lot of respect in this league from offensive coordinators and guys that play against him. He always has his guys in the right spots. They're well-coached, they communicate well and they play extremely hard. You can say you know what their stuff is, but they flip flop it all around and do a good job of keeping you off balance."

6. Calvin Johnson on going against Vikings CB Xavier Rhodes:

"He's a physical player. It's a good matchup, two big guys going against each other. They've got a good defense, a good physical team overall. We've got to bring that mindset and more."
