What'd They Say: Eagles Talk About Vikings

This may be Kirk Cousins' first season in Purple, but the Eagles are quite familiar with their former NFC East rival.

Cousins was a full-time starter for the Redskins from 2015-17, and Philadelphia's defenders know exactly what they're getting in the talented passer.

Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks said Cousins "actually looks pretty similar" in the Vikings tape he's reviewed.

"He's doing the same things. He's looking really good – slinging the ball, still has the ability to run, putting up some really good numbers," Hicks said. "He's the same Kirk that I'm used to – a solid player. He gives you a lot to handle."

When asked how much the Eagles defense can take from Cousins' film in Washington, Hicks said it's not entirely comparable.

"I think you carry some stuff over, but at the same time, they're in a different scheme. So you do have to be ready for some different stuff," Hicks said. "We'll be all right."

Defensive tackle Fletcher Cox also is quite familiar with Cousins.

The three-time Pro Bowler said Cousins is a "good quarterback" and that the key is "getting after him" up front early and often.

"Their O-line against our D-line," Cox said. "He gets rid of the ball, he makes a bunch of plays. He's a smart quarterback. A quarterback like that, you want to get after him early."

Here are other highlights from the Eagles talking about the Vikings this week:

Cox on significance of Sunday's matchup:

"I think the biggest thing is, this game is going to be spiked up. They're coming off a loss, and we're coming off a loss. So that being said, both teams will be looking to get that 'W' and get back to feeling good, because losing sucks. They have to come here, and it's going to be a great game."

QB Carson Wentz on Vikings Offensive Coordinator John DeFilippo:

Prior to joining Minnesota in February, DeFilippo worked as the Eagles quarterbacks coach.

"He was great. A lot of respect for him both as a person and as a coach. I thought he helped, really, all of us [in the quarterback room] get better. I loved the way he saw the game. We were just always in great communication. Losing him this year, we definitely miss working with him, but we feel good with the guys we have now. A lot of respect for him, and it will be fun playing against him."

Wentz on facing a 1-2-1 Vikings team:

"They're a great team. We still know they're a great team, record aside. We knew we're going to get their best. We know they're going to be a physical defense that comes in here. … It should be a fun one on Sunday."

WR Alshon Jeffery on matching up with Xavier Rhodes

"I expect him to follow me. I mean, I played him a lot when I was with Chicago. I look forward to it. … I'm just going to play my game."

RB Jay Ajayi on the 2018 Vikings defense

"It's a new team, but they still have a lot of those same guys on that defense, and you have to respect what they've done and they guys that they have. They're guys who are premier players in the NFL. We're not going to take the challenge lightly, regardless of what their record says. We still understand who's coming in to our house and what happened in the previous game against them, [but we] also understand that we're going to get everyone's best shot. That's the reality of how the season's gone so far."

Head Coach Doug Pederson on DeFilippo

"When I was looking for a quarterbacks coach, obviously he had coached the position in the past and of course coordinating, and it was just a great fit for me. Somebody that thinks a lot the same as I do, has the same temperament. It was a good fit.

"He's a guy that pays attention to detail. He's a detail-oriented coach, gets the guys well-prepared each and every week. Our quarterbacks were, every stone was turned over each week, and the guys were well-prepared. Those are the things that John brought, and obviously you hate to lose coaches, but I'm excited for his opportunity now there in Minnesota."

Pederson on the Vikings WR duo of Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen

"These two guys are fun to watch. I've gotten the chance to get to know Adam over the past couple years. He and I have spent time in Tahoe every summer [at the American Century Championship], and I get a chance to visit with him, and I think the world of him. And Diggs, the same way. Diggs has done an outstanding job for them, and they're two explosive receivers. It's something that we've, it's kind of been our Achilles heel on defense, giving up explosive plays. Two guys who can be very explosive, so definitely our work's cut out for us."

Eagles Defensive Coordinator Jim Schwartz on Minnesota's offense

"A new quarterback, obviously. A lot of the same skill guys – getting Dalvin Cook back has been big for them. They haven't been able to run the ball because they've been behind in some games and in some shootouts in [others]. They put a bunch of points on the board last week; they put a bunch of points on the board against the Packers. I think coming in to the season, everybody expected [the 49ers] to be a strong contender, and they dispatched them in the opener. They just had one awful game … against the Bills. It just shows you what this league is all about."
