Vikings-Titans Gameday Updates

3:04 PM - The Vikings get a win in their season opener as the get a 25-16 victory over Tennessee in Nashville. Eric Kendricks and Danielle Hunter scored defensive touchdowns while Blair Walsh added four field goals in the victory.

2:49 PM - Blair Walsh tacks on his fourth field goal of the day as his 30-yard try puts the Vikings up 25-10 late in the fourth quarter.

2:44 PM - Danielle Hunter continues his big game as he sacks Mariota to help force a Tennessee punt. The Vikings take over on their own 43-yard line.

2:39 PM - Minnesota can't take advantage of the turnover and is forced to punt. Tennessee takes over on their own 15-yard line.

2:36 PM - The Vikings defense forces a turnover on the second straight possession as Shamar Stephen forces a fumble that is recovered by Andrew Sendejo. The Vikings take over on Tennessee's 46-yard-line.

2:31 PM - The Titans botch a handoff and Danielle Hunter scoops up the loose ball and races 24 yards for a touchdown. The Vikings defense has a pair of touchdowns today as Minnesota leads 22-10.

2:27 PM - Blair Walsh drills a 45-yard field goal to put the Vikings up 15-10. The Vikings drove down the field thanks in part to a sliding grab by Adam Thielen to convert on third-and-15. Minnesota has scored 15 unanswered points.

2:18 PM - The Vikings lead 12-10 heading into the fourth quarter. Eric Kendricks' 77-yard pick-six highlighted a third quarter in which Minnesota outscored Tennessee 9-0.

2:13 PM - The Vikings defense continues their strong game as they force another three-and-out against the Titans offense. Minnesota leads 12-10 and will start on their own 31-yard line.

2:06 PM -The Vikings defense comes up with a game-changing play to take the lead.

Eric Kendricks picks off Marcus Mariota and returns it 77 yards for a touchdown. Mariota was pressured by Everson Griffen on the play. The Vikings lead 12-10 after the extra point attempt was no good.

1:58 PM -Blair Walsh converted his second field goal of the day, a 33-yard attempt, to pull the Vikings within 10-6 of the Titans. The Vikings moved down the field with a pair of first-down catches by Stefon Diggs and another by Adam Thielen. Cordarrelle Patterson moved the chains on a rushing play.

1:52 PM - Harrison Smith comes in off the edge and makes a strong tackle on third-and-1 to force a Tennessee punt. The Vikings will take over ron their own 27-yard-line after getting a field goal on their last drive.

1:40 PM - Cordarrelle Patterson opened the second half with a spark.

He returned the kickoff 61 yards for the third-longest kickoff return in a Week 1 game in Vikings history. The drive gained just 2 yards, but Blair Walsh was good on a 50-yard field goal.

1:25 PM - The Vikings were unable to get closer than the Tennessee 38. Blair Walsh's 56-yard attempt was wide left. Minnesota trails 10-0 at halftime and will receive to start the second half.

1:13 PM - The Titans capped a 73-yard drive with a short pass to DeMarco Murray who dived over a tackle attempt by Terence Newman and into the end zone. The 6-yard touchdown gave the Titans a 10-0 lead with 41 seconds left in the first half.

1:00 PM - A drive that started with promise ended because of penalty yards. The Vikings got a gain of 16 on a pass from Hill to Rudolph to the Minnesota 28, but a penalty on Rhett Ellison backed up the Vikings to their own 14. Hill nearly converted third-and-22 with a completion for 19 to Adam Thielen.

12:51 PM - The Vikings were ready for trickery from the Titans, with Andrew Sendejo diving and hitting Marcus Mariota as he tried to lateral the ball to Derrick Henry. Trae Waynes was quickly on Henry to force a punt.

12:42 PM - The Vikings moved the ball during their second possession, but the drive was stalled with a holding penalty against Andre Smith. Blair Walsh's 37-yard field goal was no good.

12:37 PM - Peterson converts with a gain of 2.

12:35 PM -Minnesota is on the move as the first quarter shifts into the second quarter. The Vikings will face a third-and-1 to open the second quarter.

12:26 PM -The Titans get on the board first.

The Vikings allowed a 29-yard gain on a short pass to Derrick Henry, but rallied in the red zone to force a field goal by Ryan Succop. Eric Kendricks recorded a tackle for loss to force third-and-long. Tennessee leads 3-0 with 4:45 left in the first quarter.

12:20 PM - The Vikings went a quick three-and-out.

Shaun Hill started and handed off to Adrian Peterson for a gain of 1, then completed a short pass to Charles Johnson for a gain of 5, but misfired when trying to connect with Stefon Diggs.

12:17 PM - The Vikings went with a familiar face at quarterback in their season opener as they chose to start veteran Shaun Hill against the Tennessee Titans.

12:12 PM - The Vikings defense starts 2016 on the right note.

The Vikings defense allowed the Titans to move 35 yards on their opening possession, but halted Tennessee at the Minnesota 35. Brian Robison alertly batted down a screen pass, then tackled DeMarco Murray for a loss. Everson Griffen applied pressure on third-and-11 for an incompletion.

Brett Kern's punt bounced into the end zone for a touchback.

10:46 AM - The Titans announced Sunday morning the following players will be inactive:

Tight end Jace Amaro, guard Josh Kline, cornerback LeShaun Sims, quarterback Alex Tanney, guard Sebastian Tretola, linebacker Aaron Wallace, wide receiver Kendall Wright.

10:30 AM - The Vikings announced Sunday morning that the following players will be inactive for Minnesota's season-opening game at Tennessee:

Cornerback Xavier Rhodes, receiver Jarius Wright, linebackers Kentrell Brothers and Edmond Robinson, center Nick Easton, tackle Jeremiah Sirles and tight end MyCole Pruitt.

Trae Waynes will start in place of Rhodes. It will be Waynes' second career start. The Vikings first-round pick in 2015 started at Arizona last season when the Vikings needed to move Terence Newman to fill voids created by multiple injuries at the safety position.

9:33 AM - The Vikings have downgraded CB Xavier Rhodes to questionable with a knee injury for today's game. He was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday with a hamstring injury before practicing fully on Friday.

6 AM - The Vikings will formally start their quest to defend their NFC North crown today when they begin the 2016 season in Nashville against the Tennessee Titans. Kickoff is slated for Noon with the game broadcast nationally on FOX and available on KFAN 100.3 FM in the Twin Cities.

We will officially find out who the team's starting quarterback will be in just a few hours, so stay tuned for that decision as well as the inactives, which will be announced at 10:30 AM for both clubs. Of note, both WR Charles Johnson (quadriceps) and RB Jerick McKinnon (foot) are listed as questionable. WR Kendall Wright (hamstring) has been ruled out already for the Titans.
