EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — The Vikings on Tuesday announced they have signed tackle Rashod Hill and placed Jake Long on injured reserve.
Hill, who joined Jacksonville as a rookie free agent in May, was signed off the Jaguars practice squad to Minnesota's 53-man roster.
He spent one game this season on the active roster of his hometown team but did not play against Baltimore.
Hill (6-foot-6, 303 pounds) helped Ed White High School win the 2010 District 4-4A Championship before playing at Southern Miss. He started at left tackle for three seasons for the Golden Eagles.
In 2015, Hill helped Southern Miss average 509.5 yards per game (12th in the nation) and garnered Second-Team All-Conference USA recognition.
Long, a former No. 1 overall pick of the 2008 NFL Draft, signed with the Vikings during their bye Week. He started at Chicago, against Detroit and at Washington, where he suffered an Achilles injury Sunday on Minnesota's next-to-last offensive snap.
Long, who is the third Vikings tackle to be placed on injured reserve this season, tweeted about going for surgery Tuesday morning:
On Monday, he tweeted that he appreciated the support and well wishes for his recovery.
"The NFL is an unforgiving and unexplainable game at times but I LOVE it. I will overcome this and come out stronger because of it," Long wrote in another tweet.
