Vikings Roster Refresher, Notes on Newcomers after Draft

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — After a hectic and eventful past few days, the Vikings currently have 89 players on their roster.

The Vikings added eight players via the draft and then announced they had agreed to terms with 10 rookie free agents on Monday.

The first-year players will attend a rookie minicamp this weekend at Winter Park. Most of the Vikings with NFL experience have been hard at work at the team's headquarters as part of voluntary offseason workouts.

The offseason program will culminate with a mandatory minicamp June 14-16, followed by a break until training camp opens in July.

Here's a refresher of who's on the roster (players listed in parentheses are rookies) and notes on newcomers:

Quarterbacks [4]: Teddy Bridgewater, Taylor Heinicke, Shaun Hill, (Joel Stave)

Stave had a 31-10 record at Wisconsin, throwing for 7,635 yards and 48 touchdowns over four seasons. He was picked up as a rookie free agent.

Running backs [7]: Matt Asiata, Zach Line, Jerick McKinnon, Adrian Peterson, Blake Renaud, (Jhurell Pressley, Brandon Ross)

Pressley rushed for 907 yards and 11 touchdowns last season at New Mexico. Ross had similar stats at Maryland with 958 yards and 10 touchdowns. Both are rookie free agents.

Tight ends [6]: Rhett Ellison, Brian Leonhardt, , MyCole Pruitt, Kyle Rudolph, (Kyle Carter, David Morgan II)

Morgan was a sixth-round pick whom the Vikings said was the "best blocking tight end in the draft." Carter is a rookie free agent from Penn State.

Wide receivers [10]: Stefon Diggs, Isaac Fruechte, Charles Johnson,  Cordarrelle Patterson, Terrell Sinkfield, Adam Thielen, Jarius Wright, (Moritz Boehringer, Marken Michel, Laquon Treadwell)

*Treadwell was the No. 23 overall pick who had 82 catches for 1,363 yards and 11 touchdowns last season at Mississippi. Boehringer, a sixth-round selection, didn't play college football but excelled in a German league and had 16 touchdowns in 2015 for the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns. Michel, a rookie free agent, caught four touchdowns last season at UMass. *

Offensive linemen [16]: Joe Berger, Alex Boone, Carter Bykowski, T.J. Clemmings, Nick Easton, Isame Faciane, Brandon Fusco, Mike Harris, Matt Kalil, Zac Kerin, Phil Loadholt, Austin Shepherd, Jeremiah Sirles, Andre Smith, John Sullivan, (Willie Beavers)

Beavers is a fourth-round pick from Western Michigan. A tackle in college, the Vikings project him to play guard.

Defensive linemen [16]: Scott Crichton, B.J. DuBose, Kenrick Ellis, Sharrif Floyd, Everson Griffen, Danielle Hunter, Toby Johnson, Tom Johnson, Linval Joseph, Zach Moore, Brian Robison, Shamar Stephen, Justin Trattou, (Theiren Cockran, Denzell Perine, Stephen Weatherly)

Weatherly was a seventh-round pick from Vanderbilt who had 46 total tackles and 3,5 sacks last season. Cockran attended the University of Minnesota and Perine went to Florida International. Both are rookie free agents.

Linebackers [10]: Anthony Barr, Audie Cole, Chad Greenway, Eric Kendricks, Emmanuel Lamur, Travis Lewis, Edmond Robinson, Brandon Watts, (Kentrell Brothers, Jake Ganus)

*Brothers was a fifth-round pick out of Missouri after leading the nation in tackles per game in 2015 with 152 in 12 games. He projects to play at middle linebacker. Ganus is a rookie free agent who led Georgia with 102 tackles last season. *

Defensive backs [17]: Antone Exum, Jr., Michael Griffin, Anthony Harris, John Lowdermilk, Captain Munnerlyn, Terence Newman, Jabari Price, Xavier Rhodes, Andrew Sendejo, Marcus Sherels, Harrison Smith, Trae Waynes, Melvin White, (Mackensie Alexander, Keith Baxter, Jayron Kearse, Eric Rawls)

Alexander is a second-round pick at cornerback who helped lead Clemson to the national championship game in 2015. Kearse, his college teammate, collected seven career interceptions in college and was a seventh-round pick. Baxter (Marshall) and Rawls (Kentucky State) are rookie free agents.

Special teamers [3]: Jeff Locke, Kevin McDermott, Blair Walsh

The Vikings didn't add any rookies to the group.
