Vikings Continue Re-signings with Asiata Deal

The Vikings on Wednesday announced the re-signing of running back Matt Asiata.

The contract with Asiata marks the scheduled return of the ninth Vikings player who was scheduled to hit free agency or became a free agent on March 9. Click **here** for the 2016 Vikings Free Agency Tracker.

Asiata has appeared in 58 career games, making 10 starts in his first four seasons on the Vikings active roster.

The return of Adrian Peterson in 2015 shifted Asiata to more of a reserve role. He rushed 29 times for 112 yards and added 19 receptions for 132 yards last season. Asiata also continued contributing on special teams.

Asiata started nine games in 2014 and recorded career highs of 164 carries, 570 yards, nine rushing touchdowns, 44 receptions, 312 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.

Asiata has scored three rushing touchdowns in three separate games, including against Atlanta and Washington in 2014. He also has been credited by coaches for his ability to block blitzing defenders.

It's been **quite the ride** for the player who was undrafted out of Utah in 2011. Asiata spent part of that season on the Vikings practice squad but was out of football after his release. He returned to Minnesota in 2012.

In addition to Asiata, the Vikings have announced the re-signings of Audie Cole, Andrew Sendejo, Kenrick Ellis, Rhett Ellison, Marcus Sherels, Mike Harris, Adam Thielen and Carter Bykowski. Minnesota also tendered an offer to Zach Line and will have first right of refusal if another team attempts to sign the fullback before a deadline next month.
