Tingelhoff Named A Senior Nominee For Pro Football Hall of Fame

An iconic member of the Vikings glory years, Mick Tingelhoff, was named a Seniors Nominee for the Pro Football Hall of Fame today.

Tingelhoff spent 17 seasons paving the way for Vikings offenses, starting all 240 regular season games and 19 playoff games. He started all four Super Bowls for the Vikings, earned All-Pro honors seven times and was selected to six Pro Bowls. Tingelhoff also handled long snapping chores on the Vikings special teams throughout his career.

Along with snapping to Hall of Fame QB Fran Tarkenton, Tingelhoff opened holes for four different Vikings running backs who earned Pro Bowl honors - Tommy Mason (1962, '63, '64), Bill Brown (1964, '65, '67, '68), Dave Osborn (1970) and Chuck Foreman (1973, '74, '75, '76, '77).

VOICES ON TINGELHOFF

"Mick Tingelhoff played 17 years at an All-Pro level, and in all of those years he never missed a game or a practice. He was smart, really quick, and a fierce competitor. No center in NFL history played at an All-Pro level for as long or as well as Mick Tingelhoff." - Fran Tarkenton, HOF 1986

"Mick is one of the finest centers of all time. He was quick, aggressive and played with intensity. His reputation was well known when we were playing. Our defensive coordinator always compared him to Ringo, that's how coaches and players felt about him. He certainly deserves consideration for the Hall." - Dave Robinson, HOF 2013

"Mick was a catalyst for our team and one of the most respected players on those teams. I have no doubt that had he not played center he would have been a Hall of Fame linebacker. He played center with the mentality and tenacity of a linebacker. Mick's intangibles were the thing that made him so great. He was a captain the whole time I coached him and guys looked at him as an example of how to do things." - Bud Grant, HOF 1994
