Recapping Rounds 2-3 of 2019 NFL Draft

The second and third rounds of the NFL Draft commenced and concluded in Nashville on Friday night.

Minnesota made two selections and four trades during the evening.

The Vikings tabbed Alabama TE Irv Smith, Jr., in the second round with the 50th overall selection.

General Manager Rick Spielman said Smith could provide a different type of tight end than the Vikings have implemented in the past, and there might be opportunities to run multiple tight end sets to try to create mismatches.

Spielman bounced down a total of four times in the third round, setting a new personal best for swaps within one round, and going from 81st to 88th to 92nd to 93rd to 102nd, which was the final spot of the third round and where Minnesota picked Boise State RB Alexander Mattison.

Spielman likened Mattison's determined runs through contact to those of former running back Latavius Murray.
