Next Gjallarhorn Up

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. –Several backup players have stepped up to help the Vikings get to today's Wild Card matchup against Seattle. Just prior to kickoff, the Vikings will rely on one more backup: the Gjallarhorn.

Earlier today, the Gjallarhorn used at home games this season shattered due to extremely low temperatures. Not to worry, however, as the Vikings pulled out an old faithful. The older Gjallarhorn, now on the sidelines at TCF Bank Stadium, is 1-0 in the playoffs. Former Vikings quarterback Joe Kapp sounded the instrument before the Vikings-Cowboys Divisional Round game on Jan. 17, 2009.

Vikings tight end Rhett Ellison, who suffered a season-ending injury against Green Bay last Sunday, will sound the Gjallarhorn today before the noon (CT) kickoff.
