10 Vikings-Lions Numbers of Note: Diggs Closing in on 1st 1,000-Yard Season

EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings have their sights set on their final road game of the 2018 regular season.

Minnesota plays at Detroit in Week 16, with kickoff coming at noon (CT) Sunday from Ford Field.

The Vikings are 7-6-1 and are in contention for one of two Wild Card spots in the NFC Playoff picture. Minnesota would be the No. 6 seed if the season ended today.

Detroit is 5-9 and in last place in the NFC North and has been eliminated from playoff contention.

Look back at photos over the course of time featuring games between the Vikings and the Lions.

Here's a look at 10 numbers of note heading into Sunday's matchup:

10 — The Vikings defense set a franchise record with 10 sacks in their previous game against the Lions, a 24-9 win in Week 9.

36 — Stefon Diggs is just 36 receiving yards away from 1,000. If Diggs gets there, he'll join Adam Thielen as the first pair of Vikings wide receivers to each have 1,000 receiving yards in the same season since Hall of Famers Randy Moss and Cris Carter in 2000.

14.5 Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter has a career-high 14.5 sacks this season. That's the highest total by a Viking since Jared Allen set a single-season franchise record with 22 sacks in the 2011 season.

242.2 — Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is averaging 242.5 passing yards per game this season, his lowest average over the past eight seasons. Stafford is on pace for 3,880 passing yards, which would be his lowest total when he's started all 16 games in a season.

40 — The Vikings tallied a season-high 40 rushing attempts Sunday that went for 220 yards and three touchdowns. Minnesota averaged 21 rushing attempts per game in the first 13 games of the season.

70 — Marcus Sherels had a 70-yard punt return Sunday as he totaled 116 punt return yards. The nine-season veteran ranks first in franchise history with 2,447 punt return yards and five touchdowns.

9 — The Lions have nine losses on the season, meaning they cannot finish with an above .500 record. Detroit has finished .500 or worse 15 times in the past 20 seasons.

87 — Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is 87 passing yards away from 4,000 on the season. Cousins would become the fourth Minnesota quarterback to hit that mark, joining Daunte Culpepper (2004), Warren Moon (1994, 1995) and Brett Favre (2009).

3 — The Vikings can clinch a playoff spot if three things happen in Week 16. First, Washington needs to lose Saturday at Tennessee. Then the Vikings need to win Sunday at Detroit while Philadelphia needs to lose at home to Houston. Minnesota and Philadelphia both play at noon (CT) on Sunday.

73 — Minnesota is 73-39-2 all-time against Detroit, and the 73 wins are the most by the Vikings against an opponent in franchise history.
