Justin Jefferson & Vikings Focus on Football but Appreciate Unique UK Trip

Justin Jefferson isn't much focused on being a tourist.

The Vikings are on their fourth day in the U.K., where the team is staying in the English countryside about an hour outside London. Minnesota will face Cleveland at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Sunday, with kickoff slated for 8:30 a.m. (CT).

Jefferson spoke with media members Thursday afternoon (London time) and told them he'll spend a little time exploring with his family Friday or Saturday but isn't too driven by that part of the trip.

"I've never really [spent time in] London, so it will be cool, just to sightsee a little bit. But at the end of the day, it's a business trip," Jefferson said. "I came here to play a game and to win a game. So, I'll do all my festivities in the offseason."

The Vikings receiver acknowledged "pros and cons" of International Series games, particularly being the first team to play back-to-back contests. Jefferson noted the challenge of adjusting to the six-hour time difference but emphasized overall gratitude for the unique opportunity — which includes extra-concentrated time bonding with teammates and playing in front of a different fan base.

"I'm excited for these types of games. I'm excited to play in front of new fans and a new atmosphere," Jefferson said. "I always enjoy these types of trips, and at the end of the day, we've got to come here and get a win. Especially coming from that loss [in Dublin] last week. We can't come on this trip and be 0-2."

Jefferson, T.J. Hockenson, Adam Thielen and Jonathan Greenard all spoke with media members Thursday. Here are some highlights from their sessions.

Hockenson on exploring London on two wheels:

While Hockenson doesn't plan for any sightseeing this weekend, he did utilize the players' off day Tuesday to bicycle around London.

"A couple of us went downtown … just kind of biked around the city and hung out, went to dinner, and it was fun," Hockenson said. "It's always fun to be here. Always cool to see the city and be a tourist for a day, or at least a couple of hours."

Hockenson appreciated the two-wheeled transportation opposed to relying on a taxicab or ride-share app, but he noted it did take some getting used to.

"It's interesting. It's a lot different than in America where you bike on the right side," Hockenson said. "You bike on the left side here, so we were just kind of following people. It was fun."

He added there were a few fans along the way "yelling our names."

"Like I said, it's always fun being in a different country and getting recognized," Hockenson said. "That's really the outreach of the NFL in general but then the Minnesota Vikings specifically."

Jefferson on prepping for third game with Carson Wentz:

The Vikings are readying for Carson Wentz to make his third start in place of J.J. McCarthy, who suffered a high ankle sprain against the Falcons Week 2.

Jefferson was asked Thursday about navigating the QB change and not having an exact timetable on McCarthy's return. "Jets" smiled and lightly shrugged it off, noting he's no stranger to adapting to new passers.

"To be honest, that's kind of been my whole career," he said. "It's just not really flinching at that type of deal. And that's something I can't really control. The only thing I can control is going out there and catching the ball, winning on my routes and making sure that I'm open for the quarterback to see.

"It really doesn't matter who's out there throwing the ball, and I always have confidence in myself and in the person throwing the ball that we're gonna make something shake," Jefferson added.

He later explained McCarthy is "definitely in the mix" on the sideline and taking every mental rep he can while rehabbing.

"He's still communicating with the quarterbacks, communicating with C-Wentz about what he sees out there," Jefferson said. "He's still our guy … so he definitely has to be in there mentally."

Thielen on Jefferson's trajectory for more records:

During his media session, Thielen was asked by an English reporter about Jefferson, who is just 109 yards away from surpassing Jerry Rice and Calvin Johnson for reaching yards through a player's first six seasons.

Thielen had nothing but positive things to say about not only Jefferson's on-field talent but also on reuniting with the overall quality teammate.

"He's on a path and trajectory to be one of the greatest of all time, obviously in this organization but, really, in the entire NFL," Thielen said. "So thankful to be a part of it again. You root for guys that are great teammates, that are great guys on and off the field.

"He's a guy that works extremely hard," Thielen continued, "so it's not like anything was just given to him, right? He worked for it. He's earned it. He deserves it, and I'm just proud to kind of be part of it."

Greenard on facing pair of Browns rookies:

After starting veteran Joe Flacco the first four games of the season, Cleveland has opted to swap out Flacco for 2025 third-round pick Dillon Gabriel.

Greenard expects the Browns to try to establish a run game early behind rookie RB Quinshon Judkins, who has 237 rushing yards and two touchdowns over three games played.

"I see them probably running the ball and then trying to make the game a little bit smaller, the game plan smaller, to not cloud [Gabriel's] mind as much and get the ball out quick — kind of the same plans we've been seeing all season," Greenard said.

"We treat everybody the same as if they've been a 10-year starter," he later continued of Gabriel. "I'll give everybody the same respect. Obviously he's gonna have to deal with our defense, but at the end of the day, I'm pretty sure they've got a good game plan over there, so we don't look them as any less of an opponent. That's how you get beat in this league.

"I don't care who they put out there," Greenard added. "But I do [expect] them running the football, so that's the main thing. I'm gonna try to stop this run first."

Asked specifically about Judkins, whom Cleveland drafted 36th overall, Greenard called him a powerful runner who adds explosiveness to the Browns offense.

"He knows how to jump, cut and make guys miss, and obviously he's a physical runner," Greenard said. "I think [against Baltimore] he made, like, four guys miss on one play. So that just showed you his contact balance, the trust they have in him to get the ball. He's going to be their hard-nosed guy that kind of gets those grimey yards, so we've just gotta make sure we get multiple hats on him."
