Hot Matchup: Halting a Future Hall of Famer

The Vikings pass rush has been a major headache, figuratively and literally, for QBs Matthew Stafford and Philip Rivers in each of the past two weeks. It will look to do the same this week against the Denver Broncos, but it's a taller task this Sunday because the Vikings are preparing to face one of the best QBs in NFL history.

The Vikings pass rush facing Broncos QB Peyton Manning is the subject of this week's Ticketmaster Hot Matchup.

Stafford and Rivers were sacked five times by the Vikings defense the past two weeks, but the toll of the Vikings QB pressure isn't fully illustrated by the sack totals. Both QBs were regularly picking themselves up off the turn, and they never look comfortable or in rhythm. This physical style of play and the toll it takes on opposing passers is what Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer and his defensive staff are trying to foster.

"We want to hit the quarterback as many times as we can," Zimmer said. "We want to do it legally. We want to do it in the right target area. With these great quarterbacks, with the more they're under duress, the more difficult it is for him."

The QB the Vikings are targeting this week is one of the best of all time. Manning is a 14-time Pro Bowler and seven-time First-Team All-Pro who has guided his team to the playoffs 14 times and has won a Super Bowl.

So far in 2015, though, Manning has had to deal with pressure. Manning was sacked 18 times in 16 games last season but has already been taken down eight times in his first three games this season. Manning will not be caught off-guard by the Vikings pass rush, though, so it'll be interesting to see how he and the Broncos offensive coaching staff manage that aspect of the matchup versus the Vikings defense.
