Hot Matchup: Everson Griffen vs. Russell Wilson

It's January, Minnesota's coldest month, and the forecast for Sunday's Wild Card game between the Vikings and Seahawks calls for frigid temperatures. But two players in particular – Vikings DE Everson Griffen and Seahawks QB Russell Wilson – will enter Sunday's game on fire. That's why they are the subject of this week's Ticketmaster Hot Matchup.

Griffen enters the playoffs off a flashy season finale in Green Bay where he sacked QB Aaron Rodgers twice, one of which resulted in a fumble and a return TD for CB Mackensie Alexander. The other was also in a critical situation, as it forced Green Bay to settle for a FG try late in the game. Those two sacks increased Griffen's season total to 10.5 and gave him 22.5 over the past two seasons. The performance, which helped the Vikings win at Lambeau Field and capture their first division title since 2009, also earned Griffen NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Wilson is also on a roll. After a mediocre start to the season, Seattle went on to finish 6-1 in the final seven games. The late-season surge was buoyed by outstanding play from Wilson, as he compiled a 24-1 TD-INT ratio in those final seven games and also averaged 272.3 passing yards per game with a League-best passer rating of 132.8 over that time. In the Week 13 matchup with the Vikings in Minnesota, Wilson was sharp while completing 21 of 27 passes for 274 yards with 3 TDs and 0 INTs.

Wilson and the Seahawks will look to stay hot in freezing cold Minnesota this weekend. If the Vikings are to cool off the two-time defending NFC champions, it will likely be the red-hot Griffen who is helping to lead the charge.
