Lunchbreak: ESPN asks 'Key Question' Vikings, 31 Other NFL Teams

EAGAN, Minn. – Two weeks through the 2023 NFL season and there are already a ton of questions to answer around the league.

ESPN highlighted a key question and offered stock reports for all 32 teams heading into Week 3.

On the Vikings, ESPN's Kevin Seifert wrote:

Have the Vikings already given away their season? They committed four turnovers Thursday night and have a total of seven through the first two games, which have been decided by nine points combined. Who knows how their losses to the Eagles and Buccaneers would have been different without a minus-6 turnover margin? But whether it has been by fluke or it is deserved, the Vikings have fallen into an 0-2 hole that, historically, many teams have struggled to get out of.

Stock up after the loss: QB Kirk Cousins to WR Justin Jefferson. Despite the two losses, Cousins and Jefferson are clicking like never before, with Jefferson becoming the first NFL player in 12 years to put up consecutive 150-yard receiving games to open a season and Cousins throwing for a franchise-record 708 yards over that stretch.

Stock down after the loss: Run game. The Vikings had 28 rushing yards, on nine attempts, a continuation of a theme that began in Week 1 and a bizarre twist following an offseason spent attempting to improve rushing efficiency.

Next game: vs. Chargers (Sunday, noon CT)

173 Modern-Era Nominees announced for Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024

The road to Canton 2024 has begun.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame released its list of 173 Modern-Era nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2024. Nine players are in their first year of eligibility, including former division foes Brandon Marshall, Jordy Nelson, T.J. Lang, Josh Sitton, Haloti Ngata and Julius Peppers.

The roster of nominees consists of 94 offensive players, 62 defensive players and 17 specialists. The list of Modern-Era Nominees will be reduced to 25 Semifinalists in November.

Thirteen players who spent all or parts of their careers with the Vikings — Randall Cunningham, Rich Gannon, Donovan McNabb, Terry Allen, Tony Richardson, Robert Smith, Matt Birk, Jared Allen, Henry Thomas, Kevin Williams, Pat Williams, Antoine Winfield, Gary Anderson — are among the 173 players.

Nineteen Finalists will be presented to the full 50-member Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee during its annual meeting to choose the Class of 2024. Those candidates will consist of 15 Modern-Era Players Finalists and the recently named Seniors Finalists Randy Gradishar, Steve McMichael and Art Powell and Coach/Contributor Finalist Buddy Parker.

The Selection Committee will meet early next year (on a date to be determined) in advance of Super Bowl LVIII. While there is no set number for any class of enshrinees, the selection process bylaws provide that between four and nine new members will be selected.

The Seniors Finalists and Coach/Contributor Finalist are voted "yes" or "no" for election at the annual selection meeting and must receive at least 80% support from the Committee to join the Class of 2024. The Modern-Era Finalists will be trimmed during the meeting from 15 to 10, then from 10 to five. The remaining five Finalists will be voted on individually, "yes" or "no," and must receive the same 80% positive vote as the Seniors and Coach/Contributor to earn election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2024 will be enshrined in August 2024.
