MINNEAPOLIS — The Vikings and Dolphins, as expected, rested their starters during Thursday's preseason finale, a 30-9 victory by Miami.

Miami capitalized on two penalties on separate drives against Minnesota in the red zone with two touchdowns after the infractions.

The Dolphins scored on the opening possession of the game, capping a 10-play, 78-yard drive with a 1-yard run by Kenyan Drake. The short score occurred two plays after a 19-yard pass interference penalty against Tre Roberson, who was in at corner for Jabari Price.

David Fales replaced Brandon Doughty at quarterback for Miami in the first quarter and connected with Jakeem Grant for a 65-yard touchdown that put the Dolphins up 14-0 with 12:17 left in the second quarter. Grant finished with four catches for 141 yards.

The Vikings answered with a scoring drive of their own that was capped with a 10-yard pass from Taylor Heinicke to Cayleb Jones. Heinicke also had completions of 13 to Kyle Carter, 16 to Bronson Hill and 21 to Jones during the drive. Marshall Koehn missed the extra point attempt.

The Dolphins added another touchdown with 24 seconds left in the first half on a drive that was extended because of a taunting penalty on Mackensie Alexander after an incompletion on third-and-5 from the Minnesota 13-yard-line.

Fales found former Gopher and Viking turned Dolphins tight end MarQueis Gray for a 6-yard touchdown a play later.

Heinicke was sacked in the end zone by Praise Martin-Oguike on the next snap for a safety and a 23-6 Dolphins lead at halftime. Heinicke suffered a concussion on the play and was replaced by Mitch Leidner in the second half. Heinicke finished 9-of-20 passing for 93 yards and scrambled twice for 18 yards.

Leidner was 14-of-19 passing for 129 yards in his Vikings debut.

Jones led the Vikings in receiving with nine catches for 127 yards.

The Vikings finished the preseason 2-2 and are scheduled to host the New Orleans Saints on Sept. 11 for the first game of a *Monday Night Football *doubleheader.
