EAGAN, Minn. — Vikings receiver Adam Thielen returned to the lineup and grinded Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, but he reinjured the ankle that knocked him out of Minnesota's Week 13 game at Detroit.

The Vikings announced Wednesday that Thielen has been placed on Injured Reserve.

Thielen was injured initially on Dec. 5 when he was tackled after a short catch in the first quarter against the Lions.

He missed games against Pittsburgh and Chicago and Weeks 14 and 15 before return against Los Angeles.

Thielen was reinjured after making one of three catches on 23 offensive snaps against the Rams.

Thielen has recorded 67 catches for 726 yards and 10 touchdowns in 13 games in 2021. His 10 receiving scores are tied for third in the NFL.

Thielen increased his career totals to 464 receptions, 5,966 yards and 49 touchdown catches this season. He ranks fifth in franchise history in receptions, seventh in yards and fifth in touchdown catches.

Minnesota will now rely on K.J. Osborn, Dede Westbrook and others to fill Thielen's spot opposite of Justin Jefferson.

The Vikings also announced they have designated tight end Ben Ellefson for return from Injured Reserve. Ellefson played in four games for Minnesota from Weeks 2-5. The Vikings have a window to return him to practice and evaluate him before they decide to activate him to the 53-man roster.
