A History of the Vikings Selections for 2018 Draft Picks

EAGAN, Minn. —Who will the Vikings add to their roster next week? 

The Vikings currently have eight total picks in the 2018 NFL Draft, starting with the No. 30 overall selection.

Minnesota has one pick in the first (30th overall), second (62nd), third (94th), fifth (167th) and seventh rounds (225th), along with a trio of sixth-round picks (204th, 213th and 218th). The Vikings do not currently have a fourth-round selection.

Vikings.com took a look at Minnesota's draft history of their upcoming selections to see who the Vikings snagged with these picks in the past.

This list includes players who were picked at Minnesota's current selection, but not necessarily in the same round, since the league has grown over the past few decades.

For example, the 30th overall pick is now a first-round selection. But back in 1962, the pick occurred in the third round.

Here are the 19 players, including one of the 50 Greatest Vikings, to be selected with Minnesota's current draft picks:

Pick No. 30

Previous selections: WR Bill Miller in 1962 (3rd round); CB Willie Teal in 1980 (2nd round); CB Issiac Holt in 1985 (2nd round)

Miller never played for the Vikings as he was also selected 11th overall in the 1962 AFL Draft and chose to sign with the Dallas Texans. Teal had 15 career interceptions in 79 career games [61 starts] with the Vikings. Holt recorded eight interceptions in 1986. He played 58 career games in Minnesota.

Pick No. 62

Previous selection: LB John Kirby in 1964 (5th round) 

Kirby played 68 career games over five-plus seasons with the Vikings, starting 31 games during that span.

Pick No. 94

Previous selection: None

The Vikings have never selected a player with the 94th overall pick in any draft.

Pick No. 167

Previous selections: DB Bobby Bryant in 1967 (7th round); RB Oscar Reed in 1968 (7th round); LB Nate Triplett in 2010 (5th round)

Bryant, who played all 13 seasons of his NFL career in Purple, was named one of the 50 Greatest Vikings in 2010. He played 161 career games for Minnesota [with 128 career starts], and ranks second in team history with 51 career interceptions. Reed rushed for 1,968 yards and eight touchdowns over seven seasons with the Vikings. Triplett was released during preseason cuts in 2010.

Pick No. 204

Previous selection: RB Phillip Morgan in 1965 (15th round); K Mike Wood in 1978 (8th round)

Morgan did not appear in any games for the Vikings. Wood punted 31 times for 1,100 yards (35.5 avg.) in seven games with Minnesota.

Pick No. 213

Previous selection: DT John Contoulis in 1962 (16th round); TE Norris Brown in 1983 (8th round); LB Michael Mauti in 2013 (7th round)

*Contoulis never appeared in a game for Minnesota but played 12 games with the Giants in 1964. Brown appeared in two games with the Vikings in 1983. Mauti played in 23 career games with Minnesota and has spent the past three seasons with New Orleans. *

Pick No. 218

Previous selection: T Chad Beasley in 2002 (7th round)

Beasley was drafted out of Virginia Tech but never appeared in any games for the Vikings.

Pick No. 225

Previous selection: FB Willie Jones in 1961 (17th round); TE Mark Donohoe in 1968 (9th round); G Tom Fink in 1969 (9th round); DB Tony Darden in 1998 (7th round); T Brian Crawford in 2001 (7th round); DB Jabari Price in 2014 (7th round)

Jones was picked in the Vikings first-ever draft, but did not play for the franchise. Donohoe also never suited up for Minnesota, but he spent three seasons with Atlanta and two with Green Bay. Fink, Darden and Crawford all did not play for the Vikings. Price was Minnesota's final pick in 2014 and played in 14 games that season. He was injured for most of the 2015 season and all of the 2016 season before being released at the end of training camp in 2017.
