George Edwards completed his 5th season as Vikings Defensive Coordinator in 2018 and has overseen the rise of the Vikings defense to the #1 spot in the NFL in 2017 after inherting a group that was #31 in NFL total defense in 2013. The 2017 Vikings had 3 defenders earn Associated Press All-Pro honors and 4 be tabbed as Pro Bowlers. The stout defense was #1 in the NFL in both yards allowed and points allowed and keyed the club’s run to a 13-3 regular season, the NFC North title and a berth in the NFC Championship game.
Edwards’ stint with the Vikings marks his 3rd as an NFL defensive coordinator after working in Washington (2003) and Buffalo (2010-2011) in the same capacity. The 2018 season is Edwards’ 21st season in the NFL and 29th season as a coach, all spent on the defensive side of the ball. In January 2017, Edwards served as head coach of the West team in the Shrine Bowl.
