MINNEAPOLIS — The Vikings season ended with a thud on Sunday as a "win-or-tie-and-get-in-the-playoffs" scenario was nullified by a 24-10 loss to the Bears.

Minnesota finished the 2018 season 8-7-1 and out of the NFC Playoffs.

Philadelphia secured the final spot by defeating a banged-up Washington team 24-0.

When it was do or die, the Vikings didn't.

After Minnesota climbed back into the game to make it 13-10 with 1:51 remaining in the third quarter, Chicago mounted a 16-play drive that lasted 9:05 and ended with a 3-yard touchdown run by Tarik Cohen and a 2-point conversion pass from Mitchell Trubisky to linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski.

The Vikings next possession was just four plays. A drop by Aldrick Robinson on a third-and-3 was followed with a pass to Stefon Diggs that was broken up.

The Bears outgained the Vikings 332 to 164, led by 109 rushing yards and touchdowns of 6 yards and 1 by Jordan Howard on 21 attempts.

Trubisky finished 18-of-26 passing for 163 yards with a passer rating of 85.9.

Kirk Cousins was 20-of-33 for 132 yards with a touchdown and a passer rating of 79.4.

Stefon Diggs led Minnesota with eight receptions for 47 yards and a 2-yard touchdown. Diggs finished with 1,021 yards on the season, making he and Adam Thielen the first Vikings receivers to each hit the milestone since Hall of Famers Randy Moss and Cris Carter in 2000.

Dalvin Cook led the ground attack with 39 yards on 11 carries.

The Bears were 8-for-14 on third downs (57.1 percent) against a Vikings defense that entered the game with the stingiest allowance rate in the NFL (28.2 percent). Chicago also capitalized on costly Minnesota defensive penalties that extended drives and ran the ball seemingly as much as it wanted.

The Bears finished with 37 carries for 169 yards and possessed the ball for a whopping 37:08.

Minnesota's offense started slowly and never really got things going against Chicago, which finished 12-4 and as the No. 3 seed in the NFC. The Bears already had clinched their first NFC North title since 2010.

After opening with four consecutive three-and-punts, the Vikings finally got their first first down of the game when Cook gained 2 on a third-and-1 with left in the second quarter. That drive, however, was undermined by a holding penalty

The Vikings were able to scratch the scoreboard on their final possession of the first half with a 45-yard field goal by Dan Bailey with 53 seconds left in the first half.

Cousins was 10-of-15 passing for 44 yards and a passer rating of 70.1 in the first half.

Trubisky was 11-of-14 for 108 yards and a passer rating of 98.8 before halftime.

The Vikings totaled 18 rushing yards on just eight attempts, compared to 97 yards on 16 attempts by the Bears.

Chicago gained nine first downs, compared to three for Minnesota. The Bears owned time of possession in the first half, keeping the ball for 18:42.
