Transcript: Zimmer Addressed the Media on Friday

Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer

Okay, tough division game on the road. They are a very, very good football team. (They're) strong defensively, do a lot of things offensively with a lot of weapons. They've got two Pro Bowl returners, so we're going to have to play good on all three phases to win this football game. We're excited to go out there and do our best.

Q: Who do you look to step up in Kentrell Brothers' absence?

A: Well, we've got a couple other guys who can come in and help us. Some of these DB's are going to get in there and play a little bit more, so it'll be good.

Q: How do you feel Dakota Dozier has done filling in these past couple weeks?

A: Dakota's (Dozier) done a nice job. He's a smart guy. He's tough, battler like the rest of our guys, so we expect him to go in and play good.

Q: The Packers vs. Eagles game possibly brought more questions than answers about the pass interference rule. Where are you at with the new pass interference rule and how it's gone so far?

A: I was never for it in the beginning, but, honestly, I didn't see the ones last night, so I can't comment on those. They did send me a tape this week on all the ones that were challenged, and they're not overturning very many.

Q: Do you know based on what you see what you should do when it comes to throwing the challenge flag on those?

A: Probably unless it's really egregious, I'm probably not going to throw it just because, and even if it is, it's hard to tell. I did see the one OPI last night that they changed. It was on the other side of the field, I mean, it was silly, but anyway, yeah, I'll be careful with it probably.

Q: If Mackensie Alexander can go, do you still expect it to be Mike Hughes leading the way there and Mackensie kind of easing in it?

A: No, we'll give them both some reps if they can play.

Q: Paul Krause said Harrison Smith has a linebacker mentality the way he plays the safety spot. Would you agree with that?

A: Harrison (Smith), number one, he's a good football player. He could probably play linebacker if we asked him to. He does a lot of different things. He plays in coverage. He plays in the box. He plays, he blitzes. He does a lot of different things, so I would never disagree with Paul Krause.

Q: With Anthony Barr back, how much does that expand what you can do on defense?

A: Yeah, well, he gives us a lot of flexibility in doing some things, so it should be good.
