Rhodes, Smith Named to All-NFL Team by PFWA

Another week, another round of honors for Xavier Rhodes and Harrison Smith.

Already named First-Team All-Pros by the Associated Press, the cornerback and safety were named to the 2017 All-NFL Team by the Professional Football Writers of America, the PFWA announced Monday.

Rhodes has been the shutdown corner on a defense that has held opponents to a passer rating of 73.0, third best in the NFL. He recorded two interceptions, nabbing multiple interceptions in back-to-back seasons for the first time in his career, and tallied 10 passes defensed. Rhodes ranked in the top three on the team in both categories. All-Pro wide receivers Antonio Brown and Julio Jones were held to seven combined receptions for 86 yards against Rhodes and the Vikings defense.

Smith led the team with five interceptions, tying his single-season career-high. According to Vikings coaches' stats, his 12 quarterback hurries were the most by a Vikings defensive back and his 10 tackles for loss ranked third on the team. He served as the quarterback of a defense that limited opponents to a 25.2 percent conversion rate on third downs, the best mark since the league began tracking the stat in 1991, and finished as the top scoring and yardage defense in the NFL.

The PFWA members select All-NFL, All-AFC and All-NFC Teams as part of their annual awards.

The schedule for the other awards to be announce by PFWA follows:

Tuesday, Jan. 16: Rookie of the Year, Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year, All-Rookie Team

Wednesday, Jan. 17: Most Valuable Player, Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year

Thursday, Jan. 18: Coach of the Year, Executive of the Year, Assistant Coach of the Year

Friday, Jan. 19: Comeback Player of the Year, Most Improved Player of the Year.
