Bridgewater Up For 'Never Say Never' Award

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater's leadership of a game-winning drive Sunday in just his fifth NFL start has landed the rookie a nomination for the GMC "Never Say Never Moment of Week 9."

Bridgewater and the Vikings took possession at their own 27-yard line training by five, but he calmly led Minnesota 73 yards over the course of 12 plays in 5:34 for a go-ahead TD run by Matt Asiata, who added a two-point conversion run with 3:27 left in the game for the final score of 29-26.

Bridgewater was 5-of-7 passing for 64 yards on the drive. His completions included a 13-yard gain to Rhett Ellison and consecutive gains of 21 with throws to Jarius Wright and Chase Ford to move to the Washington 15. Bridgewater then converted third-and-5 with a 6-yard completion to Greg Jennings to set up three straight rushes by Asiata.

Bridgewater has now recorded three fourth-quarter comebacks. He won his starting debut in that fashion against Atlanta and led a game-tying drive in Week 8 at Tampa Bay that allowed Minnesota to prevail in overtime.

The Vikings (4-5) are on their bye this week and return to action against the Bears in Chicago on Nov. 16.
