At the Aug. 24 preseason game against the Seahawks, the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders took the field at U.S. Bank Stadium with 650 junior cheerleaders and flag runners. Each year, the MVC spend a week with local youth preparing to put on an extra special pre-game performance. A consistent MVC goal is to do things bigger and better each and every time we take the field – and this year’s Junior Cheer was no exception!
The juniors came for three nights of practice in preparation for the big game day. In addition to learning a full-length pregame routine, the juniors also learned about three keywords that it takes to be an MVC – Confidence, Hard Work and Leadership. During our time with the juniors, the MVC strived to show them how we use those qualities in our everyday lives on and off the field and instill in them the pride that comes along with living confidently, working hard and being leaders.
It was then time for the juniors to get ready with a brand-new costume and poms! The Line Up did an incredible job creating mini “Baby Helga” costumes for each one of our juniors, complete with boot-like spats, and Wincraft created special white-and-gold poms for each girl and yellow norseman flags for the flag runners. The juniors were especially excited about the rhinestones and sparkle that helped give them that extra little something to stand out and shine on the field.
Once game day finally arrived, you could feel the excitement from the juniors and flag runners. They did a fantastic job – performing even better than they practiced. Dancing for 66,000-plus fans with nearly 700 cheerleaders and flag runners was a special memory I certainly won’t forget, and I hope our juniors won’t, either!
