The Skol Line is a drum line started in 2008 to provide game-day entertainment for all Vikings home games. Typically, ensemble members come from a variety of backgrounds including former marching band and drum corps members, teachers, small business owners and various other professions. The Skol Line performs pregame in Vikings tailgate lots, on the Metrodome Plaza and inside the dome on the concourse. During the game, performances take place 3-4 times on the field. You can also find the Skol Line performing at Vikings events including the Draft Party, Training Camp, Taste of the NFL and various other special events. Open auditions for the 2009 Skol Line will be held at the following Best Buy Musical Instruments store locations during these dates and times:
Tuesday, July 14th at Best Buy in Richfield from 4:00-6:00 PM
Tuesday, July 14th at Best Buy in Mall of America from 7:00-9:00 PM
Thursday, July 16th at Best Buy in Maple Grove from 4:00-6:00 PM
Thursday, July 16th at Best Buy in Roseville from 7:00-9:00 PM
To audition, potential members must:
- be at least 18 years of age by 8/1/09 (please bring valid drivers license, state ID or passport).
- attend all home games.
- be able to perform in front of large audiences with precision, accuracy, and enthusiasm.
- be able to commute to Eden Prairie for weekly evening rehearsals. These will be held on Monday evenings through August and on Wednesday evenings for the remainder of the season. No more than two absences will be tolerated.
- have previous drum corps or marching band experience.
- read and prepare music outside of rehearsal.
- represent themselves and the Minnesota Vikings in a positive and professional manner.
- schedule and attend an open audition at a participating Best Buy store on July 9th or 14th.
Candidates will need to download and prepare the 30 second basic audition piece which will be emailed along with the candidates audition time confirmation. In addition to that prepared piece, the audition will also consist of a 15-30 second solo piece played on the instrument for which the candidate is auditioning. This solo is to show the judges a sampling of the candidate’s performance capabilities. The solo does not have to be written out, but flashy and energetic is desired. Following open auditions, selected individuals will be asked to attend a final interview on July 21st at Vikings Headquarters and a final audition on July 24th from 6:00-9:00 pm at the Best Buy Rotunda inside Mall of America. The final audition will consist of ensemble playing in larger groups.
