Vikings To Host Special Olympic Athletes For PPK Clinic

Posted Jun 5, 2013

When Organized Team Activity #5 concludes on Wednesday at Winter Park, the competition for the day will not be over. It will have only just begun. Following Wednesday’s OTA, the Vikings will host 50 Special Olympics Minnesota (SOM) athletes from across the state for a Punt, Pass and Kick Clinic.

The athletes will be in attendance to watch the Vikings conduct their own practice on Wednesday morning, and once practice concludes the SOM athletes will take the field and compete at various punt, pass and kick stations before visiting with the players and collecting autographs to wrap up the activity.

Players scheduled to put on the clinic include P Jeff Locke, WR Cordarrelle Patterson, QB Christian Ponder and K Blair Walsh, among others. This will be the second time in as many weeks that the Vikings have incorporated a community event into their OTAs, as last week after OTA #3 the entire Vikings team, coaching staff and organization helped construct a brand-new playground at the Howe Campus of Hiawatha Community School in Minneapolis.

The Punt, Pass and Kick Clinic is part of Special Olympics Minnesota’s ongoing relationship with the Vikings, providing new and meaningful opportunities for Special Olympics Minnesota athletes. Since 1973, SOM has been enhancing the human potential and quality of life for children and adults with intellectual disabilities by offering year-round sports training and competition.  By sharing their joy and courage, SOM athletes inspire the human spirit in all of us.
